Chapter 9 - Chapter — 8

' Oh well, I might as well look at my status and see if anything has changed.' He thought, quickly opening up his System and widening his eyes as he saw changes that weren't there before.

He had 4 Talent Points.

He hadn't realised that, and he had obtained no notification from the system about any acquired talent points so he was a bit annoyed he hadn't noticed earlier.

But quickly as the annoyance of not getting notifications settled, a small notification screen appeared.

[—Ding! Do you wish to enable the Notification Setting? Y/N ]

Markus almost tripped on a vine at seeing that, his brow twitched as he let out a slow grumble.

' Why the fuck wasn't it enabled at the first place? Yes! Yes I do!'

[—Ding! All Notification and Pop Up Notification Screens will appear as soon as a they appear or when the System deems that they will not be a hindrance to the host!]

[—Ding! Showing all un-notified notifications!]

[—You have fended off two super powered teenagers. –Reward: 1 Talent Points!]

[—You have founded a survival group. –Reward: 2 Talent Points!]

[—You have stolen the abilities of two individuals. –Reward: 4 Talent Points!]

Seeing the reasons to why he obtained TP he let a small smile set on his face, a bit content with himself.

But as he threaded through the forest, he wondered once more on how to use them.

He could again use all of them to obtain new talents, or he could use them to strengthen his current talents.

After a while of mulling it over though, he decided to first see the difference in Talent Tiers first before committing.

So he willed for his weakest talent Science[1] to be upgraded.

[—Ding! To upgrade Science to Tier 2 – 2 Talent Points will be used. Would you like to go through with this action?]

' Huh? The fuck? The costs of upgrading talents isn't set to 1 each tier upgrade?' He wondered before feeling like punching himself.

Of course the costs of upgrading his talents wouldn't be set in stone, just using 1 talent point to elevate his talents higher every time sounded like too much of a cheat, even for his system.

But he still didn't know how much TP each tier needed to be upgraded.

So after a moment he decided to check each every talent he had on how much TP they needed to upgrade.

[—Ding! To upgrade Social Talent to Tier 4 – 4 Talent Points will be used. Would you like to go through with this action?]

[—Ding! To upgrade Growth Talent to Tier 6 – 6 Talent Points will be used. Would you like to go through with this action?]

[—Ding! To upgrade Sword Talent to Tier 4 – 4 Talent Points will be used. Would you like to go through with this action?]

Looking through all the notifications infront of him, he let out a sigh of relief. Atleast the costs to upgrade his talents weren't so absurd.

And by going by what he deduced, to upgrade a talent you needed the same exact number of talent points as the talent you were upgrading.

That was more than fair to him, it would make maxing out his talents harder and more long game but it wasn't so ridiculous that he couldn't achieve it.

So all he had to do was farm TP.

Meaning, getting right into the fray of events which while he wasn't too happy about, he wasn't mad either.

If not that then he could always use his ability to carefully scout out some powerful abilities and take them.

The fact that he'd probably have to kill to obtain them did sour his mood a bit, but he was prepared to do so if it meant his survival.

' God damn, not even a day into this world and I'm already conspiring to murder someone.'

Shaking his head off those thoughts he focused back on his System.

Now with clear enough information on his talent upgrade function, he decided to go with his first plan.

Seeing the difference between tiers in talents.

So with that in mind, he quickly willed for the Science talent to upgrade.

[—Ding! To upgrade Science to Tier 2 – 2 Talent Points will be used. Would you like to go through with this action?]

Immediately he agreed.

[—Ding! Science has Tiered Up to Tier 2!]

And as Markus braced himself for something, anything, he found himself drifting in his thoughts, not literally but more to the fact that every memory from back in ark where he was exposed to Scientific knowledge came right at the forefront of his mind.

He found that concepts, ideas and theories that made little sense or was simple to difficult to understand now we're a little bit clearer, more digestible and comprehendible in a way.

Though it wasn't by a large margin, but he now understood some things that would have stumped him a few minutes ago.

That wasn't the only thing he noticed though.

He found that his ability 'Tek Domain' felt even more intune to him than before, the feeling he had got when he obtained said ability in the dropship now being filtered from a mash of digital gibberish to comprehendible information.

The Science talent didn't only affect that one ability though, 'Natures Forge' was also affected. The resonance or 'echo' of information that he obtained from the plant life around him also opened up to his comprehension.

He found that he could now understand what he was getting, aside from quality and barebones information on what a plant did, he now understood why they did it. He understood their genealogical makeup, what each cell inside them achieved and more.

' Wow, a single upgrade into science did all that?' He wondered, impressed and even more excited to put the TP into his talents.

But before he could do just that, he was interrupted.

" So, what are those for?"

Markus blinked, getting out of his excitement high and sudden 'enlightenment' with his abilities to see the beautiful brunette that had fallen behind to walk besides him.

" Octavia?"
