Emma waited downstairs for more than ten minutes, but Jason still hadn't shown up. Now she finally understood how torturous it was to wait for someone. Every time before this, she was the one making Jason wait.
Just then, Lily came running over in a hurry.
"Emma, if Jason doesn't want to come, then forget him," Lily said, her tone trying to be comforting. "He's not the only rich guy around here."
But Emma wasn't comforted. She still looked downcast. Sure, there were plenty of wealthy people around.
Rumors had been spreading recently about a guy who dropped ten millions just to buy out the entire Skyview Lounge to cheer up Megan after some drama.
Then there were the students who had been seen driving a Lamborghini worth over $1,000,000 and a Rolls-Royce Cullinan worth 600,000, both parked right outside the campus gates. Everyone assumed they belonged to some rich students—after all, no professor would flaunt their money like that.
Compared to them, Jason's car—worth maybe $350,000—looked ordinary.
"If I can land any of those guys," Emma thought bitterly, "then Jason wouldn't even matter anymore."
But after what happened with Josh, even she wasn't naïve enough to think money automatically meant a guy would treat her well. Some of these rich kids might not even see her as more than a fling, tossing her aside the moment they got bored.
And she didn't even know the real identities of those Lamborghini and Cullinan owners. Chasing them felt like chasing ghosts.
Lily leaned closer, speaking in a hushed voice.
"Emma, remember Megan's birthday party last week? I got in touch with one of the senior girls there—gave her a nice gift too. She seemed pretty friendly. If we chat with her a bit more, she'll definitely spill who that guy was—the one who blew millions at Skyview Lounge."
Lily's eyes sparkled with excitement as she continued.
"Oh, and I also found out the guys with the Lamborghini and the Cullinan went to the Ridgeway Hot Springs with Holly Larson a couple of nights ago. I'm already reaching out to people who were there."
"Just think about it," Lily said, smiling slyly. "The one who bought out the lounge, the Lamborghini guy, the Cullinan guy—every one of them is richer than Jason. When you land any of them, bring your new boyfriend in front of Jason. Let's see if he can still act so high and mighty then."
Emma's mood instantly lifted, her eyes shining with new determination. Forget waiting here. She grabbed Lily's hand and headed straight for the dorms.
Back at the dorm, Lily started texting like crazy, determined to get information.
Truth be told, she wasn't looking for a guy for herself. It wasn't that she didn't want to, but she knew she wasn't the type these guys went for. Too plain, she thought bitterly.
But if Emma landed someone rich, Lily could tag along—fancy restaurants, concerts, spa days… maybe even a few nice gifts in exchange for keeping Emma's secrets.
Just like Josh used to do before things went south.
Their roommates, Samantha and Hailey, watched Emma suddenly looking cheerful again. After a few moments of eavesdropping, they realized what Emma and Lily were up to and just shook their heads.
"Seriously? Already hunting for another sugar daddy?" Samantha muttered.
But they weren't surprised. This was just… Emma being Emma.
"Hey, the senior girl replied!" Lily said suddenly, her voice rising with excitement. Emma practically snatched the phone from her hand.
The message read:
"No need for gifts, I'll tell you. It's not even a big secret—anyone at the party knows. It's just the guy didn't want to make it public, so don't go spreading it around."
"Of course, we won't," Lily typed back quickly.
The senior girl continued:
"The one who spent all that money for Megan? It was actually Jason. Yeah, the junior in engineering. I heard he used to hang around the Info Systems department. You girls are in that program too, right? Maybe you've heard of him."
Emma and Lily froze, staring at the screen in disbelief.
Jason? The guy they thought was small-time compared to the Lamborghini crowd?
Lily blinked. "Jason? Like… Jason from junior year? Senior, you're not messing with us, right?"
"Don't get me wrong," Megan said with a smirk as she tapped on her phone. "I literally watched him drop over 10.5 million dollars just to buy out that five-star restaurant on Fifth Avenue. And he casually picked up a couple of $20,000 bottles of wine like it was nothing. We drank one that night—Jason barely touched it—and that thing cost two hundred grand."
As she spoke, Megan sent a picture to the group chat. It was from the birthday party a few nights ago. In the middle of the photo was Jason, standing casually like all this money meant nothing to him.
Emma and Lily froze.
"Wait… that's really Jason?" Emma muttered, her voice trembling.
A few days ago, they had seen him buy a luxury watch and a sports car like he was picking up groceries. That alone had shocked them. But now they were hearing he spent tens of millions just to defend some girl's honor?
Emma felt a sudden, ugly twist of jealousy in her stomach.
Back then, Jason had only ever been good to her. He'd once spent thousands on gifts just to make her smile. But for Megan? He threw out tens of millions like it was pocket change.
No wonder Megan was always so close to him. What girl wouldn't be, if a guy like that was willing to burn money for her sake?
Emma stomped her foot, frustrated. She should've stayed downstairs in the dorm earlier instead of leaving so fast. Maybe if she hadn't stormed off, she could've… No, she definitely would've made things right with him.
Lily finally spoke after a long silence. "Emma… relax. Remember, there were also rumors about the Lamborghini owner and the guy with the Mercedes G-Wagon."
As if on cue, Lily's phone lit up.
It was a reply from someone she had messaged earlier about the mysterious car owners.
Reply: "Why are you asking about this?"
Lily typed quickly:
"Oh, nothing serious. People on campus were speculating about the luxury cars before, so I just wanted to confirm. Can you at least tell me who owns one of them?"
The person hesitated before replying again.
"Fine, but keep it quiet, alright? The guy seems pretty low-key. He probably doesn't want people talking about it."
"But honestly, telling you the owner of one car is basically telling you the owner of all three—because the guy who owns the Lamborghini Revuelto, the Mercedes-Benz G63, and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan… is the same person."
"Jason. That junior? Yeah, it's all him. When I found out, I couldn't believe it either. Some dude tried to flex with a few lifted trucks, and Jason just rolled in with three cars worth more than a mansion. It shut everyone down instantly."
The guy on the other end started typing excitedly, but Emma and Lily didn't even bother reading the rest.
Their minds had gone completely blank after seeing Jason's name.
The Lamborghini. The Cullinan. The G-Wagon.
All his.
And on top of that, he spent millions buying out restaurants and dropping money like water.
How rich was this guy?
It was like taking every rich student they knew and fusing them into one walking, talking billionaire.
Lily sat frozen for a long time, finally whispering, "I… I can't even wrap my head around it. Jason isn't just rich—he's operating on an entirely different level."
Emma, on the other hand, suddenly spun around and snapped, "This is your fault, Lily! That day, when Jason bought the Rolex, you said he probably just hit a lucky streak—that he wasn't even close to Josh in terms of money. I listened to you! I wanted to wait downstairs tonight, to talk to him, but no—you told me to go find someone richer!"
Lily looked like she'd been slapped. "H-hey, that's not fair. I just… I didn't know, okay? At first, when I heard he spent a few hundred grand in one day, yeah, I figured he just got lucky. Then I saw the Patek Philippe on his wrist, the G-Wagon… but even then, I didn't think he was this rich!"
Emma just crossed her arms, furious and frustrated all at once.
Samantha and Hailey, who had been sitting nearby pretending not to care, finally leaned over after hearing all the drama.
When they saw the messages on Lily's phone, their jaws hit the floor.
"Wait… Jason's the one who owns the Lamborghini? The Rolls-Royce too?" Hailey said, her voice rising an octave.
Samantha blinked, stunned. "You're telling me the guy who just casually dropped millions is the same Jason Emma dumped last month?"
Suddenly, the whole dorm room felt like it was buzzing.
Jason wasn't just rich.
He was on a level none of them had even imagined.
And Emma had walked away from him.
