My heart almost leapt out of my chest.
At first, I thought it was a trick of my eyes, but no—it wasn't..
"Oooh shit… oooh fuck…" I muttered under my breath, stumbling back a little, my eyes wide and fixed on Lucien's hand.
This wasn't what I wanted. This wasn't what I prayed for. God, no. I felt my lips trembling as I cursed under my breath again.
I just stood there, frozen, watching it all unfold in front of me. His chest rising, his lashes twitching.
I wanted to move. I wanted to run to the door, call the maid, call someone—but my legs wouldn't obey me.
They felt glued to the floor. All I could do was stare. Stare at him.
No… no, this cannot be happening.
"Maybe… maybe I'm dreaming," I whispered to myself, desperate, shaking my head like that would make this nightmare vanish. I slapped my own cheek, hard, and winced at the sting. Pain.
"Okay… no… I'm not dreaming." My voice cracked as the words tumbled out.
