Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: The Talk of the Town

The kiss. It was the only thing anyone in the Queens Group offices could talk about. What had begun as a private, passionate moment between a husband and wife had been captured in a series of shocking, blurry photos that went viral faster than any corporate announcement. The once-whispered rumors of a changed Baek Hyun-woo were now a public spectacle, and at the center of it all was Hong Hae-in.

The pictures told a story. The first was a shot of Hae-in, her face a mask of possessive fury, her hand grabbing his collar, pulling him in for the kiss. It was a raw, unfiltered moment of dominance that left everyone stunned. Then came the second photo, taken just moments later, showing Hyun-woo having pulled Hae-in flush against him, their lips locked in a fiery, passionate embrace. He was no longer a victim of her anger but an equal participant, a willing captive in a shared moment of raw desire.

The gossip spread like wildfire. The "Ice Queen" of Queens Group had been seen in a passionate public display with her husband, and the "meek" Baek Hyun-woo had shown a side no one had ever imagined. The office was buzzing with a mixture of shock, awe, and a kind of thrilled fascination. The photos, a testament to their tumultuous relationship, were a sensation.

Hae-in, now back in her office, was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. A part of her was deeply embarrassed. She, the CEO known for her flawless composure and stoic demeanor, had lost control in front of her entire company. The thought of all those eyes on her, of all the whispers and speculations, made her cheeks burn with a furious blush. She imagined the gossip and the rumors that would circulate for weeks, and a wave of mortification washed over her.

But beneath the embarrassment, a powerful, fierce sense of pride was bubbling up. She had done it. She had silenced the gossip, shown those giggling employees who he belonged to, and made an undeniable statement. The possessive fury that had driven her was now a source of immense satisfaction. She had reclaimed her husband, and she had done it on her own terms. The thought made a subtle, pleased smile spread across her lips. The image of Hyun-woo's stunned expression, the way he had melted under her kiss, was a victory she would savor for a long, long time.

Secretary Na entered her office, her face a perfect picture of professional neutrality. But Hae-in could see the subtle glint of amusement in her eyes, the slight curve of her lips that she was desperately trying to suppress. She placed a document on Hae-in's desk and cleared her throat.

"Director Hong," she began, her voice carefully modulated. "There are… some new developments regarding the rumors."

Hae-in's facade of composure was back in place. "The kiss, you mean?" she asked, her voice calm and even. "I am aware, Secretary Na."

Secretary Na let a small, subtle smile finally break through. "Yes. It's… the talk of the town. The staff is quite taken with the display of passion. Some have even said it's the most romantic thing they've seen at work."

Hae-in scoffed, a familiar sound of disdain. "Romantic? It was a… a necessary reprimand." The words were an attempt to regain control, to reframe her impulsive act as a calculated business move, but even to her own ears, they sounded unconvincing.

Secretary Na's smile widened. "Of course. A very effective reprimand, Director Hong. It seems you've put all the rumors to rest."

The subtle teasing was a new thing from her usually reserved secretary. But Hae-in, instead of getting angry, felt a surge of affection for the woman who had been her silent confidante and accomplice. The events of the past few days, the emotional roller coaster and the public spectacle, had brought them to a new level of honesty.

"It seems I have," Hae-in admitted, a small, genuine smile on her lips. She leaned back in her chair, a hand coming to rest on her cheek, a faint blush still lingering there. The embarrassment was still there, but it was now overshadowed by a quiet, fierce joy. She had been angry, she had been jealous, and she had acted on those emotions with a reckless abandon she hadn't known she was capable of. And in doing so, she had not only won a small victory in their new game but had also taken a significant step toward reclaiming the man she loved. The game was far from over, but for the first time in a very long time, she knew she was playing to win.
