"An incredible clash!"
In the broadcast studio, Professor couldn't help but praise what he had just seen.
"Both trainers are showing remarkable skill," Audrey added, her clear voice resonating through the live stream.
"But with Lanny's Typhlosion down, he only has one Pokémon left," she continued. "Meanwhile, Zilin still has two fresh battlers waiting. It looks like the winner here is already decided."
"Not so fast…"
The professor shook his head. As a scholar who had witnessed countless battles at the highest levels, he knew better than to assume. Extreme comebacks were not unheard of.
Besides Lanny didn't look the least bit defeated. His calm expression carried no hint of despair. That alone gave the professor pause.
Zilin, however, wasn't careless. Even with victory within her grasp, she refrained from sending out her ace. Better to hold her trump card in reserve, keeping future rivals guessing.
A flick of her wrist released her next Pokémon.
Whiiiish!
A strange figure emerged from Alola, a Toxapex, its spiny blue carapace bristling with venomous spikes, and its true body hidden deep within. Its reputation was well earned: almost unbreakable defenses, endless toxins, and a nightmarish endurance.
Across the field, Lanny cast his final Poké Ball.
But unlike the usual crimson light, this one erupted in a surge of black haze laced with yellow sparks.
The crowd hushed.
Dark mist flooded the stadium, suffocating and heavy, as if a storm cloud had descended into the arena. Within it, faint lightning flickered something terrifying was about to emerge.
BOOM—
The fog snapped back into the ball in an instant, a jarring shift from stillness to speed that sent a shiver down the spectators' spines.
And there, revealed at last, was a pink Pokémon with cloud-like white wool around its neck and tail. A glowing emerald orb pulsed in its chest like a living reactor, crackling with stray bolts of electricity.
A Flaaffy.
"…Flaaffy?"
Audrey's voice cracked on the broadcast.
It wasn't her fault. In a world-class tournament, nobody expected to see a mid-stage Pokémon like this. Where were the Electivires? The Ampharoses? The Rotoms? Flaaffy had never once graced the League's top stages.
The dramatic entrance made it seem as if Lanny had been hiding some rare powerhouse… only for him to send out what many considered a weakling.
"Yes… Lanny's final Pokémon is a Flaaffy," Audrey forced herself to continue smoothly. "Let's see what it can do."
But the dismissive tone was obvious.
The professor said nothing. He only narrowed his eyes. Something about this Flaaffy felt off.
---
Far away in a Town,
"Scrrrk—!"
A wooden chair screeched across the floor.
Bali shot to his feet, startling his wife and son. His gaze locked on the television screen.
That Flaaffy… the aura, the way it carried itself. He knew it.
---
Back in the arena, Zilin's confident smirk faltered.
This wasn't right.
It looked like a simple Flaaffy, but the pressure rolling off it was unlike anything she'd ever felt.
Even her father's Crobat, an Elite Four-level monster, didn't project such dread.
"Defensive stance! Toxapex, use Baneful Bunker!" she commanded sharply.
Her instincts screamed at her to treat this opponent with deadly seriousness.
---
Meanwhile, Lanny—no, Kael within Flaaffy's body stretched, savoring the fresh air outside the Poké Ball.
"Hmm.... Looks good"
For a man who had once been just another ordinary human in another life, the roar of a hundred thousand spectators was intoxicating. His pulse raced, his blood boiled, and the very air seemed to crackle in rhythm with his excitement.
Electric arcs danced across his wool as he smiled, showing sharp white teeth.
Bzzt…
His tail twitched, unleashing an invisible magnetic field that swallowed the battlefield whole.
The ground cracked beneath Toxapex, its armored body suddenly trembling under the suffocating force. Deep within its shell, the fragile body quivered it hadn't felt this close to death since its first encounter with a wild Sharpedo as a hatchling.
"Bzzt-bzzt-bzzt—"
Sparks gathered, coalescing into a growing orb of blinding golden energy in front of Flaaffy's chest.
Magnet Rise Charge Electro Ball Thunderbolt.
Each Move layered seamlessly atop the next, forged into one devastating, custom-built combo.
The orb swelled, bright as a newborn sun.
Then, with a piercing shriek, it collapsed inward compressed electricity turning from gold to blinding white.
Like a space-borne cannon, the condensed plasma beam lanced forward, pure and merciless.
BOOOOOOOM!
The stadium vanished in the light. Heat seared the air, and the ground melted into molten stone where the beam struck.
When the smoke cleared, the battlefield bore a massive crater. The once-unyielding Toxapex lay blackened and broken at the bottom, its carapace shattered, its inner body limp and unconscious.
The crowd sat in stunned silence.
Against all expectations, just a "Flaaffy" had unleashed the wrath of a thunder god.
