The Stadium roared with life.
Nearly two hundred thousand fans filled the massive arena, their cheers crashing like waves.
The League had spared no expense. Even the highest seats offered a clear view of the battlefield, and for those seated further back, massive screens ensured no detail was missed.
Cameras lined the field's perimeter, while drones hovered above, capturing every angle for the global broadcast.
For the world, nothing was bigger than Pokémon. And though the League Tournament was not as prestigious as the Champions' Cup, it was by far the most watched event its accessibility and open nature making it a celebration for families everywhere.
On this day, households across every region gathered around their screens, laughing, shouting, and marveling together.
---
In one of the luxury boxes overlooking the arena, a man stood silently at the window.
His arms crossed, his sharp eyes scanned the field below. Short hair the color of deep violet framed a face carved with lines of age and battle. His lips pressed tightly together, harsh and thin.
There was no mistaking the resemblance this was Nock, former Poison-type Elite Four and father of Zilin herself.
Behind him, the League Chairman, Damalanth, chuckled.
"Come now, Nock. With your daughter's strength, the championship seems all but guaranteed, doesn't it?"
Nock smiled faintly and shook his head in modest denial. But his eyes, bright with pride told another story.
---
Meanwhile, in the small ranch town, a family settled into their living room.
"Dad, hurry! The match is starting!"
Bali laughed as his son tugged at his sleeve. With a shake of his head, he grabbed a few cold drinks from the fridge and sank into the couch. His wife leaned into his side, while he ruffled his boy's hair affectionately.
The family's voices blended with the warm hum of the television as the League broadcast began.
---
"Welcome, everyone, to today's League Tournament broadcast!"
The familiar voice of Audrey rang clear, cheerful as ever.
"And I'm Professor Ashford," came the calm reply of her co-commentator.
"Today marks the start of the Top Sixteen Knockouts."
Audrey's tone grew sharper, more serious.
"These battles will be fought in a 6v6 full elimination format. The match ends only when one side's entire team can no longer battle."
"Today's field… chosen randomly… will be the Grassland Arena."
The broadcast cut to images of the battlefield: tall grass, natural rocks, and shrubs transplanted from real habitats to simulate the wild as closely as possible.
---
The camera shifted to the waiting rooms.
Zilin lounged casually on a chair, her violet hair flowing past her shoulders. One leg crossed over the other, a book rested in her hands. Her posture was relaxed, but her sharp eyes never truly dulled.
"She looks confident," Audrey remarked.
Professor Ashford adjusted his glasses. "Given the gap in raw strength between her and her opponent, that confidence is well-earned."
The screen then cut to Lanny.
He sat with eyes closed, arms folded, as though resting. But his furrowed brow betrayed the storm within.
"Nervous," Audrey teased lightly, "but let's hope he can channel that into a performance worthy of the crowd."
---
The referee called.
Both Trainers stepped out onto the field.
The roar of the crowd exploded, louder than before, a tidal wave of sound that nearly rattled Lanny's skull. For a moment, his ears rang and his vision swam.
He shook his head, forcing a steady breath.
And then he looked across the field.
Zilin stood tall, her long violet hair fluttering in the breeze. Her amethyst eyes burned not with arrogance, but with something far purer: a fierce love for battle, and respect for every Pokémon that fought alongside her.
Lanny's heart skipped a beat. For just a moment, he was caught in her aura.
"Match… begin!"
The referee's voice snapped him back.
Lanny bit the tip of his tongue, grounding himself in the faint sting of pain. His resolve hardened.
With a sharp motion, he hurled his first Poké Ball into the air.
Crack!
Light burst forth, signaling the start of the fight.
