The next morning, mist lingered over the seaside town, the sky still dim with pre-dawn light.
Allen and Trevor, both fully geared up with large travel backpacks, left the hotel dressed like casual travelers.
Allen inhaled deeply, savoring the crisp ocean air tinged with salt. His hand instinctively tightened around the Poké Balls on his belt, his eyes firm with determination.
After a short walk, they reached Town's harbor.
Though it was early, the place was alive with noise the creak of wooden docks, the shouts of fishermen, the crash of waves, and the calls of seabirds overhead blending into a vibrant morning symphony.
They slipped into a more secluded part of the pier, where a modest white speedboat floated quietly.
Its streamlined hull gleamed faintly in the dawn light, pale blue stripes curving along the sides.
Vroom…
The engine roared to life, churning the water into frothy splashes as the boat pulled away from the bustling dock.
By midday, the blazing sun beat down mercilessly over the endless blue sea. The speedboat cut across the surface like a hunting swordfish, trailing a plume of white spray behind it.
On deck, Trevor lounged shirtless, legs crossed, eyes closed, his gear piled carelessly nearby.
"Allen~ how much longer till we get there?" he called lazily toward the cabin.
Inside, Allen studied a weathered, yellowed map spread across the table. "Still a ways to go!" he replied with a faintly amused smile before returning to his thoughts.
The sea, he knew, could be gentle, calm, and nurturing one moment but fierce and unforgiving the next. A clear, sunny sky could turn into a churning storm in minutes.
A sudden shift in the wind made Trevor wrinkle his nose. He sat up abruptly. "Allen, the weather's changing."
Allen glanced at him and nodded calmly. "Pack the gear back into the cabin."
Rumble…
A deep, strange vibration echoed through the water, making Allen's eardrums buzz and his head feel light. He rubbed his temples, muttering, "Right… It's mating season again."
Trevor's eyes lit with excitement. Without another word, he grabbed a Poké Ball and rushed out onto the deck.
The wind whipped his hair wildly as he scanned the waves. Pinpointing the sound's direction, he tossed the Poké Ball into the air.
"Come out, Yanmega!"
Yaaaan!
The air filled with a piercing buzz as a massive dragonfly-like Pokémon burst into view. Its dark green, armored body glinted with an ancient sheen, red ring-like markings glowing faintly across its shell.
Four black ridges jutted from its back and tail, vibrating subtly. Two pairs of translucent wings blurred with speed, kicking up ripples across the sea. Crimson compound eyes glared sharply, radiating a predatory edge.
"Yanmega, hit that area with [Bug Buzz]!" Trevor shouted over the wind.
Yaan!
The dragonfly's wingbeats intensified, unleashing a high-pitched resonance that swept over the water in shimmering ripples.
Splash!
White spray exploded upward as something massive stirred below.
ROOOOM!
The deep bellow from beneath grew louder, laced with aggression. A long, dark shadow began to rise toward the surface.
Whooosh!
The sea split open, revealing a massive Gyarados. Its sleek, ocean-blue scales dripped with seawater, its mouth full of jagged teeth. Red eyes burned with fury as it roared, sending shockwaves across the waves.
Trevor's grin widened. Gone was his usual playfulness, replaced with raw battle thrill. "Noisy, aren't you? Yanmega, shut it up!"
Yaan!
Invisible blades of air slashed across Gyarados's body, leaving shallow cuts. The sea serpent barely flinched, its rage only intensifying.
A swirling mass of water gathered in its maw [Hydro Pump].
Trevor scoffed. "Wild Gyarados or not, that's sloppy compression. Dodge it, then use [Ancient Power]!"
Yanmega blurred, leaving an afterimage as the water blast shot past harmlessly. Brown-black energy coalesced in the air, forming massive floating boulders.
"Now!"
The rocks slammed into Gyarados with explosive force, each hit perfectly exploiting its weakness.
The great beast reeled in pain. As fierce as it was, it wasn't foolish this opponent was too much for it.
"GROOOOOO!!!!!"
With a final frustrated roar, Gyarados sank back beneath the waves, vanishing into the depths.
"Tch." Trevor clicked his tongue, recalling Yanmega before heading back into the cabin.
