"Frays," Alaric said grimly. "They serve the self-made king of this land. He rules this region. I believe he sent his men after you."
"What does he want with Wanda," Lara asked.
"Bait probably," Alaric said. "He wants you to come after her."
Kaelith clenched his fists. "How do we know she's still alive?"
Alaric met his eyes.
"She's alive," he said. "If they wanted her dead, they would have attacked as the others did."
"So do we go and get her?" Kaelith asked.
The pregnant woman stepped closer to Alaric and spoke to him in a low voice. Her hands moved as she talked.
Alaric listened carefully. Then his expression changed.
He turned quickly to Thornak. "Arina has an idea," he said.
Thornak straightened. "What kind of idea?"
Alaric nodded toward the pregnant woman. "The king desires her younger sister, Lysa." He gestured to a thin young girl standing behind her, eyes wide with fear. "He has wanted her for some time."
