Maravelle had just stepped into the corridor when she saw them waiting. Ruvan and two generals, standing at her chamber entrance. Their faces looked tense.
She slowed, her eyes narrowing slightly. "What is this?"
Ruvan bowed his head slightly. "Your Majesty, by order of the Sovereign, you are to remain in your chambers until further notice."
The silence that followed was sharp.
Maravelle's hand tightened on her cloak.She turned, her gown brushing against the stone floor as she walked past them into her chambers.
Jasmine pushed open the door to Kael's chambers without knocking.
He was standing by the window, half-dressed, his tunic laid out on the table beside him. When he turned, he saw tears on her eyes.
"Is it true?" she asked. Her voice was low, trembling just a little. "That Mother was in league with the sorcerer?"
Kael stared at her for a moment before answering. "Where did you hear that?"
