Lara shook her head, her pulse thundering. "Then tell me what to do," she said, stepping forward. "How do I free him? How do I save Thornak?"
The woman's pale eyes gleamed faintly in the dark. "There is a way," she said. Then lifted a trembling hand and pointed deeper into the darkness.
"A pool lies deep within this cave, the Mirror Pool. It connects the Vale to everything trapped inside it. If you find his reflection within, you can reach through and pull his body out."
Lara blinked, stunned. "What? That's possible?"
A slow, tired smile touched the old woman's face. "Yes. But nothing here is free."
Before Lara could speak again, a low rumble echoed through the cave — footsteps, muffled but growing louder. The woman's head turned sharply toward the sound.
Lara spun around just as Kael and Nayeg appeared through the misty tunnel.
"Lara!" Kael's voice broke the silence. He started toward her, but stopped short when he saw the pale, silver-haired woman standing between them.
