She reached for his hand. "Hold on. She is taking us to him."
And in the next instant, the mountain, the wind, everything around them all vanished into the light.
When Lara opened her eyes, she and Kael were standing in a quiet forest clearing.
Before them stood a small wooden cabin, its windows glowing faintly with candlelight. Then all at once they were inside. The room was simple but beautiful. Books stacked neatly, herbs hanging from the beams, and a fire crackling in the hearth.
At a desk near the window sat a man, his head bent over a sheet of parchment. He was writing, his movements calm and precise. Then the light filled the room.
He froze, his eyes widening as his quill slipped from his hand. Slowly, he stood.
"What the…" he began, but his gaze sharpened as he saw them. "Lara. Kael."
Kael's growl was immediate. In a heartbeat, his eyes flared and his body tensed, halfway between man and wolf. He moved in front of Lara protectively.
"You know who we are?" he demanded.
