Red liquid splashed all over the girl's dress, making her flinch back in shock.
"Get out!" Selene snapped.
The maid quickly rushed from the chamber.
"Why are you making everyone else miserable, just because you feel miserable."
Rhylen's voice filled the chamber.
"Spare me your sermon," she hissed. "If the servants cannot do their jobs, they deserve worse than a little spilled wine."
"Their job? Their job is to bring you wine, not to serve as targets for your temper."
Rhylen crossed the space between them in three deliberate strides, stopping close enough that she could feel the heat radiating from his presence.
"And what would you know of it? You've never had to sit and wait, watching everything you dreamed of slip into someone else's hands."
"I know enough. Enough to see that you're destroying yourself and dragging down everyone around you with you."
She gave a dry laugh. "Better that, than to sit quietly and accept scraps."
