The soft morning light filtered through the curtains of Sarah's old room in Mrs. Ellis's house where Sarah now resides, casting delicate patterns across the wooden desk. Her hair which was now tied into a loose bun, revealed her slender neck and framed her spotless, smooth olive toned face. Her mesmerising hazel eyes, a blend of green and gold, flickered with a lingering fear as she went through her job application letter, she was determined to make sure that nothing was out of order. The past week had been a whirlwind of emotional turmoil, she was locked out of the Cadwell mansion, lost access to her account, and the reminder of David's betrayal still fresh in her mind. To be honest she was not yet certain where her life was heading but she to take it step by step, as of right now there was a new goal and accomplishing that goal will help her put her life on track and also serve as a kind of distraction and keep her from thinking too much about David, she feared that if she remained idle and had enough time to think about David and the good times, she might mistakenly convince herself to return back to him, she needed a source of income, after all no one knew how long the divorce process would take, thinking of starting a new life without David, she felt her stomach drop, She has been living with David for so long she really couldn't imagine how her life without David would be like no matter how hard she tried, was she really doing the smart thing? Sarah shook her head, thoughts like this were exactly the reason why she couldn't remain idle, truly an idle mind is a devil's workshop.
The next few days, Sarah went on a job hunting spree, each place she applied for a job always told her that they will notify her later for further information, but none had called her. She never knew that getting a job was this hard, she even applied for work at restaurants but oddly enough it didn't work out.
Late in the evening, after returning from another fruitless day of job hunting, she decided to confide in her friend Rachel Donovan over a phone call. It didn't take long before she answered and after an exchange of greetings the began to discuss.
"I need a Job, Racheal," she said, her lips trembling. "I can't keep relying on my savings, since the whole divorce might take a while." On the other side of the phone call, Racheal nodded her head in agreement, her dark ponytail swinging from side to side as she nodded. Remembering a call she received in the morning. "Perfect timing" she replied, her tone brightened "My friend Roseline Meyers just returned from overseas, she's the head of a legal team at Carter tech, a major corporation, and they are hiring. Since she's in town, why not come with me to meet her, let's see what we can do."
The next Morning, Sarah met with Racheal and accompanied her to a chic café near Donova Law firm. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the hum of conversations of other people in the Café. Roseline Meyers, a striking woman in her late thirties, greeted them with a small smile, calling them over. Her smooth black hair pulled into a textured low chignon, her sharp green eyes sparkled with intelligence which was naturally common with women in her line of work, dressed in tailored navy blazers in white skirts, she exuded confidence, something Sarah was envying right now.
They all exchanged greetings as Rachel introduced Sarah to Roseline, "Sarah this is Roseline Meyers, she was my senior in law school, Roseline this is Sarah Cadwell, the lady I wanted you to meet."
"It's Nice to meet you Sarah" Roseline greeted and Sarah replied "Likewise" as they both shook hands and then sat.
As Sarah narrated her ordeals — David's infidelity with Lisa, his late nights, the numerous mistresses, the lockout, and blocked accounts, her hands fiddling with the table napkin. Roseline's eyes widened in disbelief, "I know Lisa Hargrove" she rolled her eyes as if not surprised, "I always see her at gala events or places were important people gather, she's caused quite a few scenes, while i don't know her personally, I always felt she was a snake cozying up to people with power. I'm not too surprised that she'd sleep with your husband, after all there have been rumours of her doing the same to others" She reached out to hold Sarah's hand, "Am really sorry this happened to you, you seem like such a sweetheart"
Sarah forced a smile, as she nodded, trying to hold back tears, [so this is actually who Lisa really was] she began to question everything about Lisa, was their friendship even real? Or was it just lies from the beginning or did it change once Lisa met David.
Rachael's voice drew her out of her thoughts. "I always knew Lisa was materialistic but I never thought she would stoop this low — sleeping with her friend's husband in order to climb the social ladder." Her words carried a bitter edge, reflecting the disappointment in Lisa. Sarah could only nodd as she had no words left to say, her hazel eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Roseline placed a reassuring hand on Sarah's arm, her touch firm yet kind "You need a job, and I agree that's the best step forward. Carter tech has a secretary position open, it's a demanding role, but I'll make sure you get it. You deserve a fresh start." This promise was like a life line for Sarah, who managed to let out a small and grateful smile despite the sadness in her soul.
Later that afternoon, Sarah's resolve was tested, she had called david over and over again but he had ignored her calls and texts, and the security at Cadwell Mansion had barred her entry, his ban even extended to the Cadwell Enterprises premises. Determined to meet him, Sarah lingered around the company's glass fronted head quarters. Her emerald green dress fluttered in the breeze as she stood on the sidewalk. Her arms were crossed with her head slightly lowered as she nervously looked around occasionally, anyone who saw her could clearly see that she didn't want to be there.
She saw David exiting the building, his taut frame clad in a tailored suit, his dark blond hair slicked back, she approached him.
"David," she called out, as she looked into his cold gray eyes. "You changed the locks, why didn't you inform me beforehand?" Her question hung between them.
David's response was a rude sneer, his nose twitching with disdain. "Since you've decided to leave me, how can you keep reaping benefits from me?" His tone was sharp cutting through her like a blade, his broad shoulders squared as if daring her to argue.
Sarah swallowed, as she tried to resist the urge to argue, she only needed to state her reason for seeking him out "I want to get my things from the house."
David's lips curled into a dismissive smirk, "Your things will be sent to you soon," he said while he was about to leave but then he stopped for a moment, looking at her properly, he suddenly felt that she looked more beautiful than usual, stepping closer to her. Before Sarah could react, his hand shot out like a turtle's neck grabbing her wrist with a grip that sent shivers down her spine. He pulled her body to his, in a flirty hug pose, his cheek on hers as his other hand that laid flat on her back slid down tracing the curve of her back all the way to her bottom in a subtle yet invasive way, he leaned in, his nose brushing her neck as he inhaled deeply, a predatory glint in his eyes. "I like your new perfume." he whispered, his breath hot against her skin.
