Chapter 68 - Chapter 68: The First Match

Area One.

Following the list Mu Jin gave him, Su Wen arrived at the Area One testing ground.

Wang Dong was assigned to the Area Eleven exam field, so the two separated upon reaching the assessment zones.

Compared to the other areas—which were relatively quiet, with only the competing teams and a handful of onlookers—Area One was much livelier. The spectator stands were packed with upperclassmen from second to fifth year in their various uniforms. Even the academy director, Du Weilun, had personally come to preside over the match.

"Su Wen!" Wu Feng waved excitedly.

Being this guy's enemy was too much pressure; but as his teammate… now that was pure bliss. With such a thick thigh to cling to, she was already daydreaming about taking first place.

"Oh." Su Wen's expression stayed calm as he brushed past her.

He gave Ning Tian a pleasant smile and a friendly nod.

Wu Feng's crimson eyes instantly widened.

"What are you putting on the aloof act for?!"

She grabbed Su Wen's arm and, without warning, chomped down hard.

"Hiss… let go! Let go!" Su Wen pressed a hand to Wu Feng's head, the corner of his mouth twitching. Wasn't this girl a Red Dragon? Why was she acting like a dog…

"Hmph!" Victorious, Wu Feng tilted her chin. "Serves you right for ignoring me."

"Do we need to arrange tactics?" Ning Tian asked softly.

"No need," Su Wen shook his head.

His gaze swept across the five teams on the opposite side.

A flicker of surprise crossed his face.

Huo Yuhao, Xiao Xiao, and someone named Chen Yanjin.

They were their first opponents.

Also one of Class One's… strongest teams.

The current "New Class One" was frankly a mess. Forget not having a single Soul Elder—just these three could be considered trump cards.

Though he had a good impression of Xiao Xiao.

It was a pity in the original story.

Early on she added a soul ring to her second martial soul for competition's sake; later she basically vanished from relevance, and that second martial soul wasn't exactly wasted, but it was certainly squandered. In the end she went from a face-value crush on Wang Dong to being paired with He Caitou, a big rough guy—tragic didn't even begin to cover it…

He shook his head.

From the opposing team, only that Chen Yanjin shot him a provocative look, leaving Su Wen a bit puzzled.

Who was that?

There was such a figure among Shrek's freshmen?

A level twenty-three Assault type… not exactly strong. Was there some special reason to watch out? He'd have Wu Feng test the waters first. He glanced at the silly-faced Wu Feng and gave a slight nod to himself.

Anyone who dared provoke him would get a corresponding level of attention.

"I'll serve as referee for Area One," Du Weilun said with a smile.

"After a night of rest, I trust you've all adjusted to your best state? In that case…"

"Match One: New Class Two—Su Wen, Ning Tian, Wu Feng—versus New Class Two—Chen Yanjin, Huo Yuhao, Xiao Xiao."

"Prepare to take the stage!"

"Gulp—"

Xiao Xiao and Huo Yuhao both turned a bit pale. Running into a top-tier opponent in their very first match was a heavy blow. But the brackets were random, and bad luck was bad luck.

The three exchanged glances, then stepped onto the stage and spread out quickly.

They had trained together the last few days. They wouldn't choose to surrender; if they backed down before fighting, Teacher Zhou Yi would train them to death afterward.

"Tian'er, max out your buffs on Wu Feng. I want to see what that Chen Yanjin can really do," Su Wen said over his shoulder, giving Ning Tian a few instructions.

Their formation was loose, but no one in the arena commented.

Because that boy's strength was simply terrifying. When you could dominate the entire field, the rules bent toward you. Sometimes the moment he stood there, the outcome was already decided. What everyone wanted to see was whether he'd reveal a little more of his hidden hand.

"Red Dragon!"

The instant the match started—

Wu Feng, standing at the front, released a surge of blazing heat from within. A red dragon's phantom faintly appeared behind her. Scales covered her forearms in a flash; her hands turned to dragon claws. Serpentine flames coiled and danced around her body.

"Dragon's Wrath! Dragon's Fire!"

Buff first, then the main offensive skill.

From the stands, it looked like a red dragon roared and charged the enemy line.

A level twenty-five Soul Grandmaster—Wu Feng's talent could rank in the top ten among nearly a thousand freshmen.

"Three Lives Soul Sealing Cauldron!"

Xiao Xiao braced herself.

A pitch-black cauldron slowly rose above her head.

A glint flashed in Huo Yuhao's eyes as he quietly shared his spiritual sense with his two teammates.

"Yeah!"

Chen Yanjin roared.

The ground heaved, rolling in earthen waves. His earth-dragon attribute power erupted completely. His attribute wasn't weak—among earth-types, somewhat similar to Wu Feng's. Not top-tier, but definitely first echelon.

That's right—he came from the Heaven Dragon Sect.

The Three Lives Soul Sealing Cauldron crashed down.

With spiritual sharing, Chen Yanjin's confidence soared. He met Wu Feng head-on. Earth had a faint suppressive effect against fire, so with the three of them combining forces, they actually had Wu Feng slightly on the back foot for a moment.

"The Seven Treasures.

"The first is speed; the third is strength!"

Ning Tian stood at Su Wen's side, voice calm and composed.

The Seven Treasures Glazed Pagoda in her palm gleamed. The first and third tiers flared, beams of light shooting to envelop Wu Feng ahead.

"Damn, that fierce?!" Chen Yanjin felt his scalp tingle at Wu Feng's sudden terrifying increase.

With Ning Tian, a Soul Elder, supporting her, Wu Feng's combat power was temporarily elevated to Soul Elder level.

She didn't have a third spirit skill, but she was absolutely not someone a mere level twenty-three Soul Grandmaster like him could withstand.

He kept falling back.

Even with Xiao Xiao's Three Lives Soul Sealing Cauldron assisting, he retreated under pressure.

Huo Yuhao clenched his teeth.

He could accept losing to Su Wen, but losing to Wu Feng and Ning Tian left a bitter taste.

"Soul Shock!"

He chanted inwardly.

Wu Feng, in the middle of a ferocious assault, suddenly froze, seemingly dazed in midair, almost tumbling.

"This is… the Seven Treasures' second ability—Dispel!" Ning Tian blinked, then the pagoda in her palm flashed again.

Light washed over Wu Feng, and the confusion vanished from her eyes in an instant.

"Gonna ambush me?!"

Wu Feng flew into a rage. She'd nearly been eliminated right there.

If she lost, how would she show her face in the academy after this?!!

"We surrender!"

Xiao Xiao raised her hand in time.

Chen Yanjin was already injured. If they kept fighting, they wouldn't just lose this match—the next few would be ruined too.

If Wang Dong were still here…

"Sigh."

Xiao Xiao's expression dimmed.

Chen Yanjin still got kicked off the stage by Wu Feng, tumbling a few times before Zhou Yi barely caught him.

Watching the dejected trio leave with their heads down, Su Wen yawned, bored. He really thought that Chen Yanjin had something.

Looked like only Dai Huabin's team might be fun to play with.

His gaze drifted toward Area Two.

Dai Huabin shivered on the spot. He felt like something had locked onto him?!!

"Match One: Class Two wins!" Du Weilun announced cheerfully.

Offstage, Zhou Yi shot Xiao Xiao a vicious glare—the meaning was crystal clear: I told you to add a soul ring to your second martial soul. What were you doing?!!
