Chapter 28 - Proposal

/Jake/

After my breakup with Alex, my world shattered. I lost myself chasing someone who was never worthy of my love. But then Leo came. He entered my life when I was standing at the edge of it all. He took hold of me, reminded me that love should flow from both sides—not just one.

Through my blurred vision, the vibration of a phone echoed in the quiet room. I shifted, trying to escape the sound, only to find the warmth beside me missing. My hand searched across the sheets for any trace of Leo, but all I found was emptiness. The stillness in the air felt heavy until sunlight hit my face, urging me up.

I dragged myself out of bed and followed the faint clatter of movement, finding him where the scent of food lingered—standing in the kitchen, cooking.

"Good morning, love," he said, his voice fresh and soft, wrapping around me like sunlight.

"Good morning," I mumbled as I slipped my arms around his waist, pressing close, curious about what he was doing.

"What are you up to?" I asked, still half-drowsy.

"Making your favorite breakfast." He turned within my embrace, his eyes warm, and leaned down to press a gentle kiss to my forehead.

It had been a year since I made my confession, and not once did I doubt myself for taking that step. He had become my other half—the only person in my world who had seen both my lowest and my highest, and stayed by my side through it all.

"Hey," he called out, his voice calm but tinged with something playful. "There's something waiting for you on the table. Why don't you check it out?"

I followed his gaze and found a small red box resting at my side of the table, surrounded by all my favorite dishes. The sight made me pause. "What is all this?" I asked, confusion and curiosity mixing in my voice.

"Why don't you open the box and find out?" he suggested, his lips curling into a secretive smile.

Slowly, my hand reached for the box. As I lifted it, his eyes never left me, his smile growing wider, full of anticipation. The curiosity inside me buzzed until, finally, I opened it.

Inside, nestled in soft velvet, was a ring. A beautiful one. My breath caught as I carefully picked it up, the weight of it pressing against my palm as my gaze shifted to him.

"Is this what I think it is?" I asked, my voice low, almost trembling.

"Do you like it?" he asked, his smile uncontrollable, his eyes glowing.

"Like it?" I let out a short laugh, unable to contain my happiness. "I love it."

I already knew what was coming. My heart raced, waiting for the words.

"So…" he began, his voice steady but his eyes betraying his nerves. "What do you say?"

"You didn't ask me yet," I teased with a playful smirk, drawing out his suspense.

"I know this isn't the dream proposal you might have imagined," he began, his voice unsteady. He paused for a long moment, searching for the right words.

"Jake…" He took the ring from my hand, gently holding mine in his trembling fingers. His eyes locked with mine, carrying emotions deeper than words could ever convey. "Would you spend the rest of your life with me—being my other half?"

His hands shook slightly as he waited, his entire heart laid bare before me. For a moment, the world fell silent, just him and me, his eyes pleading for an answer.

"Only if you promise to let me get drunk once in a while," I teased, breaking the tension with a grin.

His nervous smile broke into a soft laugh, relief washing over his face. With hands still trembling but steadier now, he slid the gorgeous ring onto my finger.

The ordinary morning had suddenly turned into something extraordinary—something I could never have imagined when I first opened my eyes today. There were no flowers, no candles, no dramatic gestures like in those movies. Instead, it was a small, simple proposal. Yet in its simplicity, it carried the weight of everything we were—two people who had been broken, lost, and somehow found each other.

It wasn't fancy. It didn't need to be. Because it reflected our truest emotions, raw and unfiltered. And that's exactly what made it perfect.

Just like Leo.

This is what I love about him the most—his quiet nature, his calm presence, his steady eyes that somehow say more than his words ever could. His adorable face that softens whenever he smiles, and the subtle confidence that hides behind his calm exterior, making him impossibly sexy without even trying.

Looking at him now, holding my hand as though it were the most precious thing in the world, I realized something: he wasn't just my partner. He had become my anchor, my safe place, the reason I wanted to live life to the fullest.

In his presence, my shattered pieces didn't feel broken anymore—they felt whole.

And as the ring now rested around my finger, it wasn't just a piece of jewelry. It was a promise. A promise of love, of devotion, of a future we would build together—side by side.

THE END.
