Chris frantically drove through the streets, littered with rubble and dead bodies.
Raven instinctively grabbed the handle to steady himself, his eyes drifting from the chaos outside to Chris, who had completely lost it.
They tore through the streets, turning corner after corner. The roar of the jeep's engine was enough to draw the undead toward them.
Those that had yet to synchronize lunged at the vehicle, but unfortunately for them, they became victims of Chris's reckless driving.
"Die, you motherfuckers!"
Chris roared, ramming the jeep into them, crushing bodies beneath its weight.
The further they went, the more undead came to greet them, only to suffer the same fate as the others.
By then, they had already killed enough to complete a star. But the thrill of driving for the first time, without a care in the world, blinded Chris so much that he didn't even notice.
"Hey, that's enough already! We can stop now," Raven called out, but Chris pretended not to hear.
At that moment, Raven knew.
'I'm screwed.'
100%.
As they traveled, Raven noticed more houses and buildings. The questions that had haunted him from the start were answered in that moment.
People were still alive. Not everyone, of course, but some had managed to escape and hide. Some were even peeking out from their windows, watching the two of them drive like maniacs.
And Raven began to wonder… what did he really want to do?
[A/N: Sorry to interrupt here, but I think it will be good to show you the POV of different characters separately, to better understand them. Do tell me what you think.]
***Raven's POV***
As I watched Chris recklessly plow through ruined streets and corpses, a question burned in my head.
At first, I thought this apocalypse was a chance. A chance to finally rise, to do something more than live like the dead.
But now…
What do I truly want?
I didn't think I would witness so much in the span of just three hours. But what I had seen already changed the way I looked at everything.
I'm an orphan. I've known that since I was old enough to understand. Even back then, I had people I could call family... but in the end, they were never mine.
Most of my life was spent in juvenile prison, surrounded by kids my age. But after that incident, I could never get close to anyone again. Slowly, I became someone cut off from the world.
Find a job. Earn money. Pay rent. Buy food.
That became my entire existence.
Survive.
Survive as a lowlife.
That became the motto of my life. Survive... because what else was there? Isn't that what everyone does?
I did the same.
And that was my life. That was all I had.
Until… the apocalypse descended.
For a flicker of a moment, I thought it could change everything. But now…
Even in this new world, people have different starting points.
Chris already has a skill. And I bet there are others out there with more, maybe even stronger abilities.
And me?
I have nothing.
Not even a clue how to get one.
Once again, I've fallen behind.
The only difference between me and the rest is this... I'm willing to climb to the top no matter what.
Yeah, it's true I have nothing. But I will get there, no matter what it takes.
Growing up, my dream was simple... one day, meet my parents and live with them, but that dream was never fulfilled.
And now, all I want is to live the way I want.
Growing stronger? Killing the undead? Becoming entertainment for those higher beings? I don't care about any of that. All I want is to live a day without worry. A day where I can sleep soundly.
A day of comfort.
I won't die before I see that day. I won't stop, even if I have to become a monster.
No matter what.
My resolve was firm now. Not a single doubt in my mind.
I glanced at Chris again. He's not someone I know well yet, but he's naive. I don't worry about betrayal from him… but his emotions? Those could betray him any moment.
As those thoughts churned in my head, we reached the place where one of the giant undead was roaming freely.
Up close, it looked even bigger than we imagined.
"Die, you beast!"
Chris roared beside me, slamming the accelerator. The jeep surged forward, reaching over 140 km/h as it barreled toward the creature.
Sensing us, the undead turned its massive body. Each step it took shook the ground.
Within seconds, the jeep collided with it, ramming into its lower body, shattering bones.
We passed through, but the jeep took heavy damage, I could feel it in my bones.
The plan had been to kill it, but it was still alive.
The good thing? It was on the ground now, with no way to rise.
Time to finish it off.
