Zennosuke Kuramadani seemed to realize that Yuki Ryunosuke's injury had been caused by Madarame Shino, and before leaving, he reminded the two of them not to fight and to work hard.
"Okay, let's start patrolling. I'll head north, and you head south." Madarame Shino stood above Karakura Town and analyzed the situation.
"Eh? Aren't we patrolling together?" Yuki Ryunosuke asked in surprise.
"What are you talking about? If we patrol together, then what's the point of having two people? Or are you afraid? If you're scared, just admit it…"
"Yes, I'm scared!" Yuki Ryunosuke answered without hesitation.
"Don't say it so bluntly, it's embarrassing!" Shino turned and left. "I don't care about you anymore. Work on your own courage."
"How come…?" Yuki Ryunosuke reached out his hand in vain as Shino's figure vanished completely from sight.
For a moment, he was the only one left in the sky above Karakura Town. The sight below was busy with traffic and flashing lights, yet the silence of the air gave the impression that a predator could strike at any time.
Soon, rain began to fall from the sky.
Perched on a telephone pole, Ryunosuke faintly heard a television broadcast from a nearby house.
"Our station reports that there will be heavy rain tonight…"
As if on cue, thunder rumbled and the downpour intensified until the streets of Karakura emptied of pedestrians.
Ryunosuke leapt across utility poles until he came to a large bridge overlooking the river. He sat on the railing, watching cars pass and water surge beneath him.
"Shino was too much this time… She left me to patrol alone. Still, if I avoid running into Hollows, then everything should be fine… right?"
The sound of rain against the concrete and steel drowned everything else out and gave him the sense that he was completely alone. He wrapped his arms against himself, shivering slightly.
Then he froze. A Hollow resembling a spider crouched on the bridge just above him without warning, its massive legs stretching across the structure.
"Aahh… Miss Shino! Miss Shino!"
Ryunosuke sprinted up the building stairs two at a time and burst through the rooftop door. The scene before him froze him in place. Shino was trapped in the grasp of a massive gorilla-like Hollow that held her high above the ground, its jaws opening to devour her. Blood ran down from her body and mixed with the rain, but still her right hand clutched onto her Zanpakutō with every ounce of strength left in her.
Finally, her blade slipped free of her weakening grip and clattered against the rooftop.
Ryunosuke's hands shook as he reached for his weapon. "There are only two of us here… I have to fight."
He trembled, but tightened his grasp on the hilt. "I must save Miss Shino."
Several more giant Hollows appeared beside the gorilla-like one, their massive bodies taller than the buildings themselves.
What he didn't notice was the spider-like Hollow from before, descending on him from behind with its sharp legs poised to impale him.
Pshh!
His Zanpakutō was knocked from his hands, his body driven into the ground as water splashed over him.
"No… just one hit… My body won't move… My hands won't move either… Is this… death?"
Blood spread across the water beneath him. His vision blurred.
"No… I can't die yet… I still haven't saved Miss Shino…"
The Hollow loomed over him and raised a claw for the finishing blow-yet in that moment, a streak of light cut through the rain. The spider Hollow's mask shattered and its body dissolved into nothing.
"Young man…"
"Stand."
"Watch closely."
"This will be Bankai."
"Shatter your fate."
Ryunosuke squinted through the haze and saw the figure of a man in black standing in front of him. His face was obscured, and his spiritual pressure was undetectable. Only the blade in his hand was visible, its hilt wrapped tightly in white bandages. His voice resonated with authority, heavy with something beyond ordinary strength.

"Bankai. Zanka-dachi."
The sword in his grasp turned a charred black.
In that instant-the entire downpour vanished. Rain evaporated from the air as though the sky itself had been burned clean.
The Hollow standing before them, so terrifying only moments ago, was obliterated in a mere breath of power.
Ryunosuke's eyes widened in awe. "Is that… Bankai? The power to shatter everything…"

Ryunosuke jolted awake in a bed, his body stiff with pain.
"Sorry, I didn't hear you just now," he muttered, groggy and disoriented.
"Have you recovered from your injuries?"
He turned to see Yuta by his side, along with Kurosaki Ichigo and the others. Somehow, he was lying inside Ichigo's home.
Ichigo crossed his arms, unimpressed. "Since you're awake already, you can get out."
"You… you are…?" Ryunosuke asked quietly.
"My name is Kurosaki Ichigo. This here is Yuta-san, that's Ishida Uryū, Chad Yasutora… and Inoue Orihime is part of the group as well, though she's not here right now."
Ryunosuke blinked as recognition dawned when he heard Yuta's name. His voice carried disbelief.
"It's Captain Yuta…!"
