Chapter 43 - Epilogue

Manroe stood on the steps of Psi-Ops HQ and stared up at the starry sky. It seemed strange that only three weeks ago, the Earth and her people faced an invasion. He knew that it would all work out. Funny how things had hinged on love.

::Are you still brooding, Manroe?:: Jeremy's voice filled his mind.

Manroe smirked. ::Me, brood? I think you have things confused, brother. I don't brood, I plot.::

Jeremy stepped up next to him. "Oh, come on, Chris. Even you had to admit that we played that one really close to the vest."

"And you two almost got us killed," growled Brion as he emerged from the shadows and joined them.

"Spoilsport," Jeremy countered. "Admit it, Xavier, we took care of our little sister. We made sure she got her happily ever after."

"You always were a romantic. Besides, she doesn't even know why we helped her."

"You make it sound like it's a bad thing, Xavier."

"Maybe it is. She may be our sibling, but I didn't feel such an urgent need as you two to see her married off. That's precious human DNA being wasted on aliens."

"Not wasted, trust me," Chris stated.

Jeremy stiffened and Xavier looked thoughtful.

"Good evening, brothers. Until we meet again. May the winds of life fly you in the right direction." Manroe smiled at the disgusted glances his siblings gave him. Let them chew on that one for a while. He walked away, whistling a forgotten lullaby.
