Chapter 65: The Dusk Stone
When Ryuuki finally accepted that the Gyarados was her Little Flutter, she was ecstatic. Ryuuki was a complete sucker for appearances. She loved cute Pokémon, but she also loved regal and cool types; as long as they had high aesthetic appeal, she liked them.
Gyarados was different. She was familiar with it. After confirming its identity, the first thing she did was ride on its head and wander around the Royal Capital, scaring quite a few residents. Her mother, a formidable person in her own right, ignored the Gyarados's ferocious face, dragged Ryuuki home, and gave her a good scolding.
Ryū, however, only heard about this from Liz the next day. He had slept through the entire spectacle.
In the Royal Palace Treasury, built on the first underground floor of the palace.
"Let me see what treasures there are."
Ryū came to the treasury alone. Although he already had a way to obtain the Razor Fang for Gligar, he wondered if he might find one here.
He opened the large oak door. What greeted him was not a glittering mountain of gold. In the world of Pokémon, gold was valuable, but not to the same extent as it was on Earth. The currency people used was still silver coins. The treasury was large but sparse, with only about ten large boxes filled with various messy things.
"Turns out Liz is poorer than I thought."
The Royal Dragon Kingdom had only been established for ten years. In that time, how many treasures could one collect? And Liz was not a tyrant who would seize her subjects' wealth.
Ryū opened all the boxes, dumped their contents onto the ground, and started searching. He actually found some good things. For example, a type of stone.
"Dusk Stone..."
He found many black-purple, crystal-clear gems. To the people of this era, they were just beautiful stones. They certainly hadn't discovered their special effect on certain Pokémon.
'In the Johto region, the Pokémon that can use a Dusk Stone are Murkrow and Misdreavus.'
"Very good. If I encounter one, I can catch it," Ryū nodded with satisfaction.
Both Pokémon were worth training. Murkrow was a master of stealth at night, while Misdreavus was a natural-born assassin. One could protect Liz, the other could eliminate her enemies.
"What else is there..."
He continued his search, hoping to find something that could increase his own strength.
"A Dragon Scale, tsk..."
He then found a scale that could allow a Seadra to evolve into a Kingdra, which was of no use to him. He wasn't going to catch a Seadra for Liz; its mobility on land was too poor for the wars of this era.
After searching carefully again, he found nothing else he recognized.
"Too bad. I only found a Dusk Stone that might not even be usable," Ryū sighed and turned to leave.
Both Murkrow and Misdreavus were difficult to find. They had no fixed territories and wandered wherever they pleased.
"Forget it. I'll catch them if I find them. First, I'll deal with Charmander and the others."
Ryū returned to the ground floor. He planned to leave the Royal Capital in the next day or two and needed to set up a training plan for Liz's Pokémon.
