Chapter 118: Depressed Yu Xiaogang
Yu Xiaogang had been feeling quite depressed lately. A month ago, he had met Bo Saixi, a Sea God Douluo from Sea God Island who was even more formidable than Spirit Hall's high priests. This should have been something worth boasting about, but ever since Bibi Dong left with the Spirit Hall fleet, everything had changed.
Previously, he had always enjoyed a life of luxury with Bibi Dong. On the way back to Spirit City, however, he was subjected to constant bullying. Kicked out of the most comfortable cabin, he was forced to work as a handyman, waking up earlier than a chicken and sleeping later than a dog. He became an object of ridicule for every Spirit Master in the fleet. Yet, he was powerless to resist. When he threatened to tell the Holy Maiden, a tactic that had always worked, they simply didn't care.
"Sigh, just bear with it a bit longer. We'll be in Spirit City tomorrow," Yu Xiaogang muttered, wiping the sweat from his forehead. He secretly swore that once he became a grandmaster of theory, he would make these lackeys pay. He, Yu Xiaogang, would prove that he was a man who stood tall and proud.
The morning sun bathed the land in warmth. To facilitate the Sect Competition, Spirit City had opened up a designated area in its center: an enormous arena, five hundred meters in diameter, constructed from granite and reinforced with special spirit tools. Directly in front of it stood the Supreme Pontiff Palace.
Early in the morning, all the participating clans, led by Spirit Hall's personnel, arrived at the venue. Thousands of lone Spirit Masters, Spirit Emperors and above, also gathered to watch. Spirit Hall had even made an exception for a small number of talented disciples below that rank. It wasn't out of kindness; they were all targets for recruitment.
During the Sect Competition, Spirit Hall would court almost every lone Spirit Master. After witnessing Spirit Hall's powerful foundation, at least half of them would choose to stay. Only the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan, with its support-type Martial Soul, had ever had similar success in recruitment. This year, however, it seemed destined that no one would join them. Their "image had collapsed" yesterday. The phrase "strangling geniuses from other factions" had almost become synonymous with their clan.
Just then, a group of five people flew out from the Supreme Pontiff Palace. Qian Xunji, enveloped in golden light, flew at the forefront, followed by Golden Bell and Silver Hammer Douluo. Behind them were Qin Xuan and Bibi Dong, the latter riding on a flying sword condensed from Qin Xuan's sword qi.
Seeing them arrive, Chrysanthemum Douluo, who was hosting the event, shouted, "His Holiness the Supreme Pontiff has arrived!"
"Long live! Long live! Long live!" Three shouts, like a tsunami, echoed through Spirit City.
All the lone Spirit Masters and the masters of the various clans knelt on one knee. "Greetings, Your Holiness the Supreme Pontiff."
Only the Crown Princes of the Two Great Empires and the Upper Three Clans remained standing. Qian Xunji, dressed in a crimson ceremonial robe and wearing a nine-curved purple-gold crown, landed at the VIP seating area. He did not sit down immediately, but surveyed his surroundings. When he saw that members of the Upper Three Clans like Tang Hao and Ning Fengzhi did not even bow, a hint of displeasure flashed in his eyes. He let out a cold snort, flicked his crimson robe, and slowly sat down. "Rise."
His gaze swept imperiously over the resting areas of the Seven Great Clans that had emerged from the preliminaries: the Clear Sky Clan, Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan, Sacred Dragon Clan, Wind Sword Clan, Elephant Armored Clan, and Black Tiger Clan.
"Good, very good," he said. "From you, this Seat sees the flourishing of the Spirit Master's world. For those who earn a title among the Upper Three Sects, their Martial Soul will be engraved on the three empty city walls of Spirit Hall. Furthermore…"
