Chapter 19 - "Esdeath’s Summoning"

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Border Region — Imperial Army Camp

Esdeath sat in a chair, staring at the military map in front of her with visible boredom.

"This is getting dull."

The so-called northern barbarians were laughably weak—barely worth her time.At this rate, the war would be over soon.

But the problem was...

She wasn't enjoying it. Not even a little.

She shook her head and was about to go rest when her eyes narrowed slightly.

"…What's this?"

A piece of pitch-black parchment appeared in front of her, radiating an ominous, eerie aura.

Almost by instinct, Esdeath reached out and grabbed it.

[Demon Contract]

Her brows arched slightly. She didn't recognize a single word on the parchment—but somehow, she understood exactly what it meant.

"A demon, huh? Sounds fun."

A smile curled on her lips. That cold, dangerous glint sparkled in her icy blue eyes.

If it really was a demon…Could it finally give her the thrilling fight she craved?

Without hesitation, she picked up a feather pen and signed her name.

"Well then, demon—answer my call."

A flicker of excitement flashed across her face.

The legendary demon…What kind of powerful being would it be?

That was the only thing running through her mind.

As for anything else? She didn't care.

Still…It's probably fake, right?

Esdeath's gaze flickered.

After all, she'd never heard of demons actually existing.

When she found out who dared to prank her like this, they'd seriously regret it.

But just as disappointment started to set in, the entire tent was suddenly lit by a blinding flash of light.

BZZZZZT!

The contract in her hand floated into the air and morphed into a glowing magic circle on the ground, humming with mysterious power.

Her pupils shrank. She shot to her feet.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Footsteps echoed in the tent.

A figure emerged from the magic circle—slowly coming into view.

Black hair. Black eyes. Dressed casually, but with a noble air about him.

Esdeath narrowed her eyes.

"You… are really a demon?"

She was finding this hard to believe.

But the magic circle said otherwise—this was no illusion.

"You summon me, and then question who I am?"

The man—Edgar—smiled faintly. With a soft flutter, a pair of jet-black wings unfurled from his back.

"Is this proof enough for you?"

Esdeath's eyes widened.

Even someone like her was stunned.

Everything that had just happened…Completely shattered her view of the world.

So demons… really do exist?

At the same time, Edgar's gaze sharpened slightly.

The moment he laid eyes on Esdeath, he immediately figured out what world he'd landed in.

A world filled with gorgeous girls… and some seriously dark vibes.

Still, not a bad place to be.

Plenty of dangerous creatures to farm experience from.

And those Teigu—legendary weapons—while most weren't worth his time, a select few had ridiculous potential.

Even better…If he could unlock the technology behind them, he might be able to make his own.

But above all—

This world was filled with people who had the potential to become his loyal subordinates.

Thinking that, he gave Esdeath a look, something sparking behind his eyes.

"So then… what's your wish?"

Esdeath finally snapped back to reality.

She hadn't expected this to actually work. She had literally summoned a real demon.

Her entire worldview was being rewritten in real-time.

Still...

She liked it.

A wild, manic energy pulsed from her as she smirked.

"Simple. Give me a good fight."

"That fits your personality perfectly."

Edgar's expression didn't change. He beckoned her forward with a single finger.

"In that case—what are you waiting for?"

"Heh..."

Esdeath let out a low laugh.

No more words. She lunged like a streaking meteor straight at Edgar.

In her hand, a blade of pure ice formed instantly—an icy, bone-chilling military saber.

She slashed down hard—

BOOM!

The clash echoed like thunder.

But…

Her sword didn't even touch him.

Esdeath's pupils contracted. It felt like an invisible force field was protecting him, completely blocking her strike.

What the hell kind of power was this?

Esdeath never underestimated a fight.

Especially when going up against a demon.

So when she struck—she went all in.

But even so…She couldn't even break through his defenses?

BAM!

Edgar's fist slammed into her stomach.

Her body froze—then—

BOOOOOM!

A terrifying burst of force exploded outward, shaking the air itself in every direction.

Esdeath went flying uncontrollably, crashing into the tent and bringing it all down in a massive CRASH.

BZZZZZT.

A wave of magic shredded what was left of the tent into pieces.

Edgar stepped forward, a smirk on his face.

His power—just at Demon King level—was already this overwhelming.

Even someone like Esdeath was no match.

He could only imagine how terrifying those above Demon King level would be…

Meanwhile—

The loud crash had drawn the attention of dozens of soldiers nearby.

They arrived just in time to see someone slowly getting up from the rubble.

It was—

General Esdeath?!

Everyone stared in shock.

Who the hell could do this to her?!

"Cough…"

Esdeath let out a dry cough, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth.

"Ah... maybe I overdid it a little," Edgar muttered, scratching his cheek awkwardly.

But he didn't regret it.

Someone like Esdeath wouldn't ever truly submit unless you showed her overwhelming strength.

At that moment, the Imperial soldiers snapped out of their daze.

Many of them had been ready to charge in, weapons drawn—

But then…Esdeath turned her icy gaze toward them.

Instantly—They all froze in place.

They knew exactly what that look meant.

They were getting in the way.

Without a second of hesitation, the soldiers backed off as fast as possible.

None of them dared interrupt General Esdeath's "fun."

"..."
