At eight o'clock the next morning, Uchiha Hikaru arrived at the training ground and saw that Hinata, Shino, Hayate, and Sasuke were already gathered there.
He raised his hand and waved to greet them.
"Good morning, my lovely students. Have you filled your stomachs?"
"Today won't be as easy as yesterday. It's time for real shinobi training!"
Sasuke jumped excitedly. The injury to his backside had been treated at Konoha Hospital yesterday and wouldn't affect today's session at all.
Beside Shino, a group of parasitic insects formed the word "hmm" and an exclamation point "!".
Hinata's voice was louder than the day before, and she made a small cheering gesture with her hands in front of her chest.
Hayate shouted with passion, his blood boiling.
"Sensei! I'm ready!"
Seeing the four of them already full of spirit, Uchiha Hikaru formed hand seals and created a shadow clone, then swaggered over to the edge of the training ground.
He pulled a scroll from his ninja tool pouch, then took out a blue lounge chair, a massive parasol, and two glasses of juice.
He placed one cup on the platform beside the chair, kept the other in his hand, and lay down leisurely with his legs crossed, fully enjoying the beautiful spring morning.
Meanwhile, the shadow clone stood in front of the four students and began to explain the training exercise.
"From now until noon, you have four hours. I'll be here on the training field."
"I won't use any ninjutsu, taijutsu, or genjutsu against you."
"All you have to do is land a single hit on me. The one who manages it gets to rest and enjoy a cold drink."
Then he tossed a small stone into the air.
Hinata, Sasuke, Shino, and Hayate all locked eyes on the spot where the stone would land.
Thud.
The moment the stone touched the ground, the four of them sprang into action.
"Byakugan!"
"Parasitic insects, deploy!"
"Let me test my blade, Sensei!"
"I'll be the first to take down Brother Hikaru!"
The four attacked from all directions with their respective specialties.
The shadow clone dodged Hinata's Gentle Fist strike by shifting his body to the side, then spun around and tapped Sasuke on the shoulder with his fingertip.
But Hinata's palm strike hit his acupoint dead-on, sending a jolt of numbness through his arm. The kunai in his hand dropped instantly.
As Hayate drew his sword from his back, the clone capitalized on the moment and chopped at his wrist with a swift hand strike, forcing the blade to fall.
Shino's bugs swarmed toward the clone—but Uchiha Hikaru's clone responded with Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu, incinerating them midair.
Meanwhile, the real Uchiha Hikaru reclined on his chair, observing the chaotic, uncoordinated assault with his hand on his forehead.
It's the same old problem. Whether it's the Academy or clan training, no one teaches teamwork.
Among the four, only Hayate seemed to grasp the basics of coordination. He had deliberately delayed his attack, letting Hinata and Sasuke move first, hoping to take advantage of an opening with a precise sword strike.
But his movement was still too broad.
If Shino's insects had managed to seal off the escape routes more tightly, they might've forced the shadow clone to use a substitution.
Hayate recognized this and quickly gathered the other three. He lowered his head and began whispering a plan.
"Sensei Hikaru's shadow clone won't attack us—only dodge using various means."
"Hinata, you go first with Gentle Fist. Sasuke, use your clan's shuriken technique to cover her blind spots and anticipate the clone's movement."
"Shino, try to circle around and trap the back with your insects. I'll strike from above to seal the air."
"This way, we'll block every direction. He won't have a way out."
Truth be told, Hayate becoming a Chunin at thirteen was no fluke. He might not have been as gifted as Kakashi, but he had earned the rank entirely with his swordsmanship. His combat instincts were already well above the others, who were still just nine.
The four of them plotted openly, fully aware that Hikaru's clone was watching, but he didn't react—only raised an eyebrow and pretended not to hear.
Still, he was secretly excited.
Let's see what they come up with.
Hayate jumped onto a nearby tree branch and crouched low, gripping his sword's hilt tightly, his eyes locked on the clone.
Shino's insects began to swarm from beneath his feet and circle behind the clone.
Hinata activated her Byakugan, veins bulging around her eyes as she took a Gentle Fist stance.
Sasuke retrieved a dozen shuriken, clamping them between his fingers, a near-invisible wire looped between them. In the sunlight, it shimmered faintly.
The coordinated assault resumed.
"Gentle Fist Art: Eight Trigrams Sixteen Palms!"
Her right hand struck forward with precision guided by the Byakugan, aiming for the clone's chest. Her left hand followed rapidly, both palms striking one after another.
As Hinata approached, the clone twisted and dodged, narrowly avoiding her blows.
Her accuracy's improving. But she's still too slow, and not aggressive enough, Hikaru thought.
Sasuke's Sharingan flared open, and he tracked the clone's movement, anticipating its dodge path.
With a focused breath, he flung the shuriken in a fan-shaped arc toward the clone's upper body.
Hikaru, still reclining, observed the trajectory.
Good aim, but still basic. No use of the wire technique yet. Itachi clearly gave him strong fundamentals, but he lacks real-world experience.
The shadow clone extended three fingers, firing off senbon needles. Just three were enough to knock every shuriken out of the air.
Shino's insects were already behind the clone now, boxing him in.
As the clone twisted to dodge Hinata again, he spun behind her and gently tapped her on the back.
Hinata, seeing the dense swarm of bugs closing in from the front, panicked and dropped to the ground.
"Ah!"
At that moment, Hayate's eyes caught the flaw—the only moment of vulnerability in the clone's movement. As it twisted, momentum prevented a clean recovery: its right foot was still pivoting, and its right hand had not yet returned to guard. Only the left was usable for seals or defense.
Now!
Two more shadow clones sprang out beside Hayate, and the three figures blurred forward with a burst of wind.
In an instant, they appeared behind the shadow clone.
With one coordinated strike, they attacked the top of the head, back, and the clone's feet.
