Feat Achieved! Repel Shigaraki Tomura
+1x Diamond Ability Gacha Ticket
Feat Achieved! Forcefully change your race into an Epic Race
+1x Diamond Trait Gacha Ticket
Reading the same letter for the fifth time, I gingerly put it in my bag of holding. Not for any sentimental reasons or anything. The kid was just an excellent writer, like modern day Shakespeare. They should pursue a career in professional writing.
But time will eventually come for everyone to stop reading and start gambling like real adults. I tried to force myself into a sitting position, but failed, so I kept laying down and instead stared at the interface, and suddenly something changed.
[Miscalculation detected, several tickets have been lost due to not getting actualized.]
[Diamond Ability Gacha Ticket has been given Advantage as recompense]
Huh? Was I supposed to get tickets before? Or did I just forget to get some tickets or something? I don't remember.
But I wouldn't be looking this beautiful gift horse in the mouth. If it wanted to give me an advantage for my troubles, I'd accept it with grace.
I'd normally acquire some Toganium for a roll like this, but that letter probably had some luck residue on it, I felt quite confident for some reason.
So, I rolled the Diamond Trait Gacha, and considering how my body was at the moment, I might drop dead if the roll is not good. So it better be good.
Rolling Diamond Trait Gacha...
A Rare Trait!
[Gym Nut]
Rare Trait
You are a gym nut, want those powerful muscles? Better get to grinding. Your body recovers from exercise far quicker and far better, and your physical training efficiency is increased considerably. You could achieve peak human fitness in a few months of decent training.
God is dead.
RNGesus was never real.
That is a good trait for sure, but not for a Diamond Ticket! What is this scam!? Did they paint a gold ticket blue or something?!
This diamond ability better compensate for it, or we'll have a problem Mr. Gacha, you hear me!?
...Pretty please?
Rolling Diamond Ability Gacha with advantage...
[Silicon Manipulation]
Epic Ability
Allows you to telekinetically shape and control the element Silicon down to an atomic level, granting you control over objects like glass, sand, quartz, silicone and most electronics inside your sensory range.
or
[Conflagration Emotion]
Epic Ability
Allows you to share and spread your emotions and feelings over an area, spreading the courage and determination you feel to everyone, enforcing your hatred and anger towards your opponents. inflicting your fear and pain on an opposing army. The amount of energy expended scales with the strength of the targets, the range of the aura and the amount of targets affected.
Bitchin'
While my knowledge of Chemistry wasn't the best out there, I knew Silicon was a pretty important element, to the point where most elements in the world contained it. It was the element that made up most rocks, quartz and Silicone, the rubber. That shit was practically everywhere.
Hell, practically all rocks other than like Marble were mostly silicon. This thing was basically Geokinesis with extra steps.
Conflagration Emotion sounded like the stronger ability, I was messed up in the head enough that it would be crippling to push that onto other people. But it was honestly way too creepy and screwed up in so many ways. I certainly wouldn't want anyone to use that shit on me. That kind of ability sounded more down Shigaraki's lane.
So I confirmed my choice and felt the ability take its place in my roster. Just one away from 20.
Of course, I did not dare activate it, or any other ability at the moment. My energy regeneration was on strike, and that shit was not trickling up. Honestly, I was just glad it hadn't straight up quit with how much I'd been abusing it lately.
Feeling bored, I inspected my hand, or more like my lack of fingers under the gauze, I could see the tips of the bisected fingers pulsating and ever so slowly growing back.
Gross.
Slam!
"Hakari! Are you-!?"
"Going deaf because of how loud you are? Yes."
The only reason I didn't jump up from the bed because of the sudden door slamming was because the sheer amount of anesthetics I was on made it so that my reflexes were measured in minutes at the moment.
"You're okay!"
"Do I look okay to you...?"
"Midoriya-kun! Stop stressing out Hakari-kun!"
I sighed at the antics of the two stooges who just burst into my room, both also wearing hospital gowns, but able to stand unlike me. Actually, maybe I could stand? I hadn't tried all that hard, but I'm sure if I tried, Recovery Girl might unlock the ability to astral project just to beat me to death on the spot.
Izuku gripped the side of my bed and tears flowed down his eyes while Ida put a hand on his shoulder and bowed to me. Seeing Izuku's tears, I lifted the arm with the intact fingers and flicked him on the nose. Making him recoil.
"O-ow why did you do that, Hakari-kun!?"
"Dumbass, you aren't supposed to cry in this situation. You're supposed to say you better have survived after I sacrificed an arm for you. Or something cool like that, don't start up the waterworks whenever you get emotional."
My voice came out raspy and strained due to still being raw. But Izuku seemed to get the message and wiped his eyes.
"R-right, I'm sorry- I mean, I get it Hakari-kun. I'm just glad you're still here and all."
Ida nodded alongside him.
"Indeed, we were just elated beyond measure to hear you're still in one piece-" I waggled my fingerless hand in front of him, making him pale. "-mostly still in one piece."
But as we were exchanging pleasantries. The door to the hospital room suddenly opened once more and three people entered the room without even knocking. A man in a suit and the head of a dog, a man dressed like a fish with a light blue and white costume and a short old man wearing a white and yellow suit. They seemed surprised by my condition but stayed professional. The dog man recovered his composure and coughed into his hand.
"Ahem, woof. My apologies for the intrusion. I am Hosu City's Chief of Police, Kenji Tsuragamae."
"The Chief of Police?"
Deku stood up and so did Ida, but I did not even attempt to move. They were in my hospital room. And I did not remember inviting them.
"You can be at ease, gentleman. You three are the UA Students that brought down the Hero Killer, Stain and the one that was primarily responsible for fighting the currently unnamed villain, is that correct?"
Seeing everyone but me nod, he pulled a chair and sat down with a serious expression.
"Regarding the Hero Killer that we seized, he was in borderline critical condition with several mangled limbs and is still in intensive care under strict guard. I'm sure as U.A Students, you all must know that in order to avoid causing chaos, quirk usage is held up to high standards of ethics and rules. And it is unacceptable for three unlicensed quirk users to cause grievous bodily injury without instructions from their mentors. Even against the Hero Killer."
Blah blah blah, just the average cop spiel. I've heard this shit a hundred thousand times.
"That is ridiculous! We were protecting our lives!"
"Yeah!"
The man shook his head.
"It is the law, just because the end result was positive doesn't mean it was correct to break those rules which were set for a reason. If exceptions were made constantly, it would lose all meaning. Which is why those involved in the incident must receive strict punishment."
I didn't even bother to listen as words went through one ear and out the other, the elephant grade painkillers in my bloodstream made doing that rather easy.
"But isn't it the job of a hero to save people!? People were going to die if we didn't step in!"
"Indeed, it is. Unfortunately, you all are students, not properly trained and licensed heroes. Punishments exist to discourage other students and people less fortunate than you attempting the same thing recklessly and dying in the process. Goodness, why must I be the one to tell you this? UA should have taught you this already."
I wonder what would happen if Toga drank my blood? Would the Red Child Cells mess her body up?
"And Hakari-kun, more importantly. About your fight with the currently unnamed villain."
He caught my attention and I tilted my neck towards the dog man.
"Your punishment would be far more severe. During your fight you caused immense destruction of public property and a destructive fight that grievously wounded several civilians as collateral."
I blinked before craning my neck and lifting myself up slightly in disbelief.
"Could you come closer and say that? I'm just a bit too far to spit in your eyes. Unfortunately, my spine isn't working well right now so I can't walk over and rip off your arms myself and see how you like it."
"Hakari-shounen hear him out-"
The small old man started speaking, but I cut him off, pulling myself up despite how unresponsive my body was.
"No, you hear me out. I had my arms turned to dust, my eye pop like a balloon, my body shredded, I had to remake my fucking flesh from the ground up just to survive. I couldn't have run away, and if I let him kill me, he would not have stopped there. And you're telling me that I'll get punished over it?"
Contrary to me who was ready to square up for a fight despite having a foot in the grave, the cop's shoulders sagged and he bowed his head.
"You are justified in your anger. But society is rigid, people whose houses were ruined could blame you, people would pressure you because you got special treatment by getting off the hook. Fact of the matter is, no one would understand that situation as well as you. As a resident of the city, of a city where my family lives, I cannot thank you enough myself. Which is why I'd like to avoid dealing that punishment to you young men at all costs."
I narrowed my eyes but did not say anything. So he continued with his head still bowed.
"The fight between you and the Villain has very little in the form of records or witnesses, and no direct video recordings. With Nezu-sensei's help, we have currently suppressed news from spreading at the moment. Endeavor-san was on the scene, and he has rather unwillingly agreed to take the credit for taking down the Hero Killer and repelling the Unknown Villain in your steads. If that were the case, you would have never been there officially."
I felt a disgusting feeling welling up in my gut but sighed and laid back down on the bed.
"Do whatever you want. Just... just get the fuck out of my room."
"Right, we'll do that, thank you for your co-operation. You are a Hero, Hakari, everyone. Even if the law does not see it that way."
I did not turn my head until I heard the door of my hospital room close, and everyone had left. I felt bitter. Yet I didn't regret my actions. It curdled into frustration rather than anything else. So many utterly conflicting emotions and I had no way to vent them.
So, I just blankly stared at the ceiling. One silver lining to this whole thing was that no one had seemingly heard of how badly I had been injured. Which must be the case because there was no Himiko Toga under my bed at the moment.
Sigh...
SLAM!
"Do you all understand what doors are for!?"
"What's with that gloomy look on your face, brat!?"
The one who had thrown my Hospital door open once more was not Izuku or Ida, but instead the person I was supposed to be interning under right now. Mirko in all her glory.
Right, I forgot I just took off on her without any explanation.
It's just one after another, isn't it?
Give me a break.
A/N: These Diamond tickets are giving Hakari no breaks lol, Gym Nut is exactly what he needs in general but rather brutal to get it from Diamond. Silicon on the other hand will be a very fun one. Especially when Hakari hits the 20 ability milestone and I can do the thing I've been looking forward to for a while. Also yes, that advantage was added because of those tickets I forgot a while back that people were asking me about.
The Police Chief is tough, but he is kinda right. While Hakari wouldn't have been punished too heavily since he was fighting for his life, and tried his best, a lot of peoples houses got destroyed and a lot of destruction, and if he took claim for repelling Shigaraki, he'd have to take some responsibility for it too, that Hero license is not just for show or bureaucratics, even if it is frustrating. What did you guys think about this chapter? I'd love to know.
