Pecan's pov

The night was cloaked in an eerie stillness as Julian and I crouched behind a thick cluster of bushes near the eastern edge of the pack territory. The wind carried the faint scent of pine and damp earth, mingling with the distant sound of owls hooting. My heart thumped erratically in my chest, the anticipation of what we might find out here coiling through me like a live wire.

"Do you think they'll show up?" I whispered, glancing at Julian, who sat motionless beside me. His sharp eyes scanned the clearing ahead, his body tense but calm, like a coiled spring waiting to snap.

"They will," he replied in a low voice, barely louder than the rustle of leaves. "The scent trail we found leads here. Whoever's been plotting against you will want to revisit this spot eventually."

The thought sent a chill skittering down my spine. Someone out there wanted to hurt me,or worse. And they didn't care who they had to use to make it happen.
