Pecan's pov
The first day of school dawned, dragging along an unwelcome wave of anxiety. I stood before the mirror, fiddling with the buttons of my plain blouse. No amount of effort could mask the wariness etched into my face. After everything that had happened, stepping into a new school felt like walking into the lion's den. I took a deep breath and grabbed my bag. I couldn't afford to let anyone see the cracks beneath the surface. Not today.
When I arrived, the school was abuzz with the usual chatter. Groups of students clustered near the lockers, some laughing, others whispering. I ignored the curious glances thrown my way as I made my way to my assigned locker. Being new always came with the territory of being stared at, but today felt... different. The whispers were heavier, the looks more scrutinizing.
"Hey, loser girl!"
