Chapter 170 - A Bunch of Money-Grubbers

"Have a safe trip, Professor!" Victor waved and shouted. As he watched Dumbledore's figure finally disappear, the smile on his face faded a little. Victor turned to face the endless sea of books, feeling both excited and a bit overwhelmed.

The reason he had suddenly asked Dumbledore to borrow his family's books was that he wanted to find out what the Fiendfyre world was all about. Ever since he saw the Black Goat in the Fiendfyre world, a question had been lingering in his mind.

He knew that in the world of Harry Potter, the Cthulhu Mythos existed in the form of a legend. Just like on his home planet, it was nothing more than a series of literary works.

The Cthulhu Mythos, based on the world view of the American author H. P. Lovecraft, was a series of literary works compiled by August Derleth and created by many other authors.

The Cthulhu Mythos series was similar to the SCP Foundation; they were both a series of literary works where people used their rich imagination to constantly create new content within a relatively simple and fixed world view.

This meant that in the Harry Potter world, the Cthulhu Mythos was not some ancient folk tale or religious product handed down from ancient times. It was merely a literary work that was born in the modern era.

So, this led to a very strange question: without any historical basis, how did monsters like the Black Goat, the Nameless Mist, and the Gugs, creatures that were less than a hundred years old and only existed in novels, appear in another world? This was a huge mystery!

Naturally, Victor thought of the goblin diary he had found in the Restricted Section when he was investigating the origin of Fiendfyre. From that diary, it was clear that the goblin race had probably been aware of the Fiendfyre world for a long time.

If the goblins could, was it possible that over thousands of years of human development, no human had ever accidentally discovered the Fiendfyre world and recorded it?

So, to solve the mystery, Victor, who had already read most of the books at Hogwarts, had set his sights on the ancient Dumbledore family!

However, even though he wanted to figure out the origin of the Fiendfyre world, the Dumbledore family's library was a bit too chaotic!

Victor took a quick look around. The total number of books and scrolls here was at least forty to fifty thousand. He also did a quick check and found that the books and scrolls here had not been sorted at all!

Furthermore, the goblin and human wizard books were all mixed together. It would be like finding a needle in a haystack to find clues about the Fiendfyre world from these books.

Victor looked at the towering bookshelves and mountains of books in front of him, a melancholic expression on his face.

The first thing he had to do was separate the goblin books and scrolls from the human wizard ones.

After racking his brains, Victor finally came up with a solution. Goblins were good at alchemy, so to ensure their precious books were properly preserved, they would most likely use fire- and moisture-proof alchemy on their books, given their greedy nature.

So, he randomly picked up a book with goblin writing, put it on a fireball he had summoned with magic, and roasted it. As expected, the goblin book did not catch fire, and there wasn't even a scorch mark.

And just like that, Victor started three days of hard work, sorting all the books and scrolls.

Three days later, Victor looked at the two towering mountains of books and the rows of empty bookshelves, a black line on his forehead. The exhausted wizard finally decided... to enlist help!

So, on the morning of the fourth day, at Victor's summons, all the members of the Fairy Tail Guild were teleported to the Dumbledore family's castle.

Hermione and the others looked at the magnificent old castle and the beautiful scenery around them, and their eyes widened in awe. They were speechless for a long time.

"Alright, stop staring! Your eyeballs are going to pop out!" Victor yelled, with his hands on his hips and his eyes like a dead fish. "You're a bunch of unpromising children! If you have the guts, build a castle yourself someday!"

"Wow, Master, it's easy for you to say! Do you have any idea how many Galleons this castle would sell for?" Draco pointed at the castle, his voice filled with excitement. "Even if I sold my family's manor, it wouldn't be enough!"

"No way, I've been to your house. Malfoy Manor isn't much smaller than this castle," Victor said, not believing him.

"Master, a castle with this much history can't be measured by its normal value," Draco explained. "I once went to a relative's house in Germany. They live in a castle that was built over three hundred years ago. It cost them more than three million Galleons to buy that castle!"

"Gasp!" Everyone present was startled by that number and instinctively started doing mental calculations.

"Th-three... three million..." Zoe began counting on her fingers, her eyes wandering as she calculated how many years of grand feasts that amount could buy her.

"Oh my gosh, three million! If my family had that much money, we would definitely have a new house, and we would have new clothes every year!" Ron's mouth was agape, his face blank.

"Three million... if it's converted into gold... that's not much," the rich Penelope counted on her fingers, then gave a blank look with a question mark on her head.

Victor rolled his eyes at the sight in front of her and quickly said, "Alright, alright. Stop daydreaming!"

"I didn't call you here today to stand around and daydream!"

The others slowly came back to their senses. "Let me introduce you. This castle is the Dumbledore family's old manor, and it will be the second base for our Guild from now on!" Victor said loudly.

"A second base?!" Scarlia raised her short little hand. "Master, don't we already have a base? Why do we need a second one?"

"The Fairy Tail Guild can't stay at Hogwarts forever. For example, Penelope, she's in her sixth year. In one more year, she'll graduate. Do you still want her to run around Hogwarts like a student all the time?" Victor replied.

Penelope, whose name was called out, scratched her head in embarrassment, a faint blush appearing on her face.

"So, Master, what are we doing here today?" Zoe raised her hand and asked.

"Good question!" Victor snapped his fingers. Everyone's vision went blurry, and they instantly found themselves in a strange place.

"Whoa, it's heaven!" Hermione, Scarlia, Penelope, and the other book lovers all exclaimed in shock at the same time.

"This is the library on the ground floor of the castle. I've already sorted the books into two parts," Victor said, with his back to the mountain of books. "The books and scrolls on my left belong to the goblin race, and the ones on my right are from human wizards."

"Your task is to sort these books and put them back on the corresponding bookshelves!"

"What?!" Everyone gasped and immediately erupted in loud protests.

"Master, that's a mountain of books! A mountain! There's no way we can do that!"

"Yeah, yeah! There must be tens of thousands of books! And we don't even know the goblin language. How are we supposed to do it?"

"I protest! I protest!"

"I protest, too! Master, didn't you say you were going to give us a big inspection before the school year starts? We need to train our magic. We don't have any spare time to do this!"

"Exactly! Even if you're the Guild Master, you can't exploit us like this! Are you trying to be an evil capitalist?!"

A cacophony of protests filled the air. Victor stared at them with his dead fish eyes and silently held up one finger. As soon as his words fell silent, an eerie stillness fell over the room.

"...a Knut."

"For every book you sort, I'll give you one Knut." Victor completed his sentence. Immediately, everyone except for Luna, Hermione, and Penelope, who didn't care about money, all raised their hands and said in unison, "I'm in!"

Seeing her friends raising their hands, Luna also smiled and raised hers, finding it amusing.

"Well, then, let's get to work!" Victor said with a smile, secretly giving a universal gesture of contempt in his mind.

What a bunch of money-grubbers!

Under Victor's command, the sixteen young wizards of the Fairy Tail Guild began to wave their wands, holding goblin dictionaries as they put the books and scrolls back onto the bookshelves.

In the process, everyone's magical control improved without them even noticing.
