Chapter 39 - Cedric Diggory

Hearing Victor say that the basic principles of magic circles could only be understood through self-realization, Hermione dejectedly picked up [The Basic Principles of Magic Circles and Rune Carving] and began to pore over it again.

This scene reminded Victor of Earth Land, where a cute little girl with blue hair would often be found in the underground library of the guild hall, tirelessly studying Solid Script magic. She also seemed to like reading or doodling in books around the guild, which made her very similar to Hermione in that regard.

Thinking of Levy's cute appearance, Victor smiled, then skillfully extended two fingers and, without Hermione noticing, tapped her on the forehead. She instantly fell asleep. He used to do the same thing to force Levy to rest. If she didn't, she would have worked for days and nights without sleep, and her body would have collapsed.

Gently resting Hermione's head on her arm, he took the book from her hand. Flipping through the pages, Victor found that in just one night, the young witch had already taken many notes. Although there were many logical errors, her effort was clearly visible. Victor slightly corrected some of Hermione's mistaken notes, then placed the book back beside her and began to deal with another matter.

"I say, classmate, if you have something to say, just say it. Why are you sneaking glances at me?" Victor turned around, his eyes narrowed, and said resignedly to a student sitting behind him.

It turned out that shortly after Victor had entered the Great Hall, he noticed someone behind him kept looking at him. He could feel the stares, and they were intense.

Only after hearing Victor's words did the student slowly turn around. Victor saw the student's embarrassed and hesitant expression.

"Hello…" The student nervously scratched his head. He didn't know why, but even though he knew the person in front of him was two years younger, he felt a sense of inexplicable pressure.

Victor squinted and looked at the student's house crest, a badger, and realized he was a Hufflepuff. From his face and height, he was probably a third-year.

"What is it? What do you want?"

"H-hello, I'm Cedric Diggory, a third-year Hufflepuff," Cedric said, politely extending his right hand to introduce himself to Victor.

"Cedric…" Hearing the name, Victor instantly remembered who this Hufflepuff was. It was no wonder he looked so familiar.

Cedric Diggory first appeared in the Goblet of Fire. He was one of the champions representing Hogwarts in the Triwizard Tournament and an excellent student. But unfortunately, he was also an unlucky fellow.

To help Harry Potter get the Triwizard Cup, he and Harry were accidentally transported by a Portkey to Voldemort's location, where he was instantly killed by the Avada Kedavra curse.

At the end of that school year, Dumbledore's eulogy for Cedric was:

Cedric was a person who exemplified the qualities of Hufflepuff. He was a good and loyal friend, and he believed in fair play. His death has shocked us all, whether we knew him or not. Remember Cedric. When you are forced to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember the fate of a good, kind, and courageous boy.

However, the Cedric of today was not yet the man from the Goblet of Fire who dared to point his wand at Voldemort and Peter Pettigrew. This Cedric still had a boyish face and a slight blush. His demeanor was a bit shy but also possessed a hint of elegance.

Although Victor didn't know why Cedric was looking for him, he politely shook his hand and asked, "So, Cedric Diggory of Hufflepuff, what can I do for you? Other than the comics and the troll, you can speak freely."

"Actually, I wanted to ask you about the magic you used yesterday on the pumpkin head," Cedric replied, a little shy. "I played the game you designed yesterday, and I thought it was amazing! I've never seen such a unique spell in my life! I was too embarrassed to approach you, as I knew a spell like that shouldn't be easily taught to others. But I was just sitting behind you and accidentally overheard you talking with the lady next to you about teaching her magic, so I wanted to ask if I could learn, too. I know this is very presumptuous, but this magic is very important to us!"

Hearing Cedric's words, a faint blue glow flashed in Victor's eyes, and then he sighed helplessly, saying, "People say that Hufflepuffs are honest and fair, but from what I see, that's not entirely true! Your Healing Team students were using healing magic haphazardly on the lawn in front of the Great Hall yesterday, and they almost worked Madam Pomfrey to the bone! You want to learn Skyscraper mainly to help the Hufflepuff Quidditch team train, right?"

"How did you know?!" Cedric asked in surprise, then looked a little embarrassed. "Is that what the spell is called, Skyscraper? You're right. I did want to use this magic to help our Quidditch team train. I thought of it while I was playing the game yesterday. The Hufflepuff Quidditch team hasn't had any success in decades! We've tried to learn from the other houses, but whether it's Gryffindor's chaotic play style, Ravenclaw's endless tactics, or Slytherin's devious sportsmanship, we just can't learn them! And besides, the Quidditch players from those three houses all have their own private brooms, but we…"

For some reason, Cedric didn't want to continue. But Victor, who had used Legilimency on him, knew the exact reason, so he rolled his eyes and shook his head, saying, "Hufflepuff's motto is 'hard work, dedication, patience, and fair play,' but you have turned it into a kind of strange rigidity!"

Victor said this because the Hufflepuffs' philosophy for playing Quidditch was to always use basic equipment and win by superior skill. The Hufflepuffs believed that winning games by using better equipment, like the Slytherins, was a hollow victory. The true strength of a Quidditch player was their personal skill.

This idea wasn't wrong in itself, but the problem was that the Hufflepuffs seemed to be shackled by their own beliefs. They clung to the Hufflepuff motto of honesty and hard work, scoffing at those who won with a gear advantage, and swore to sweep the other three houses with their superior skills and the pathetic school-provided brooms.

It's great to have a dream, but… Was that really how they understood honesty? They should apologize to Helga Hufflepuff right now!

A gear advantage and personal ability are interconnected. Even the best equipment needs a skilled person to use it. Giving excellent equipment to an unskilled person is just a waste.

Back on his home planet, there was a time when the Hufflepuffs and a certain country had the same mindset. But after fighting another country and a dozen allies, they realized the importance of equipment and developed a crippling fear of low-level equipment. However, they still held to their people-first approach, which was not the case in other countries.

Victor thought for a moment about Cedric's request to learn Skyscraper. He wasn't going to turn Cedric down just because it was their first meeting.

To be honest, Victor had already planned to establish a guild at Hogwarts starting next semester. Once the guild was formed, any student who could pass his test and become a member of the guild would have the opportunity to learn the power of magic circles.

This was also a way for Victor to avoid unnecessary trouble once the power of magic circles was fully exposed to the world. In other words, Hogwarts and Dumbledore would be his backup. Even a terrorist like Voldemort wouldn't dare to act recklessly against the school, especially with the White Wizard King as its protector.

Secondly, since Hogwarts was a magic school, a guild being established there would give people the misconception that they could learn the power of magic circles by attending Hogwarts.

Besides these reasons, Victor also wanted to use the guild as a core to build a force against the pure-blood faction of the Harry Potter world.

To achieve such a grand thing, he couldn't do it alone!

As the great leader once said, one must unite all forces that can be united to fight the enemy!
