A month had passed in the blink of an eye since the start of the Hogwarts school year. In that time, the new first-years had slowly grown accustomed to life at the castle. However, with the appearance of Victor, a butterfly whose flapping wings had caused quite a stir, the usual routine at Hogwarts had taken on a much more "interesting" color.
It all started in the very first week when Victor taught the young Ravenclaws how to fly with the Levitation Charm. The atmosphere at Hogwarts began to feel increasingly strange.
For the first two weeks, most of the young Ravenclaws were just starting to practice wandless magic. The students from the other three houses found it both curious and amusing to see them chanting "Wingardium Leviosa" with their hands waving about in the Great Hall. But things took a turn two weeks later.
Some of the older Ravenclaws, who had several years of magical education under their belts, quickly showed results in their wandless practice. They could make objects fly without having to say the spell aloud.
This seemingly simple progression, however, brought disaster to the entire student body. With their new, advanced skills, the older Ravenclaws naturally moved on to the next, more advanced stage of practice: casting the Levitation Charm without a wand. But without the aid of a wand, these students, still in the learning phase, inevitably lost control of their magic.
For example, when a Ravenclaw was practicing a wandless Levitation Charm on an apple, he would inexplicably make the fruit bowl underneath the apple fly instead. Or, while trying to cast the Levitation Charm, some students would accidentally cast other spells, such as Incendio, Petrificus Totalus, or even the Obliviate charm.
The most serious incident was a fire that nearly burned the entire Ravenclaw library to the ground. A senior Ravenclaw, while practicing a wandless spell, accidentally caused the fireplace in the common room to explode. The scattered embers quickly ignited the entire room, causing a massive fire.
Although the students present quickly realized what was happening and fled the common room, the fire had already spread to the bookshelves. If Victor hadn't happened to be walking by and seen the flames coming from his House's common room window, he wouldn't have rushed in to put out the fire and magically restore the burned books. Otherwise, the student who caused the accident would likely have been eaten alive by his peers.
After this incident, Victor speculated that some of the Ravenclaws were accidentally casting spells that didn't match their intentions, much like the "explosions expert" Seamus Finnigan. They, too, might have a unique innate talent.
However, these incidents were contained within Ravenclaw.
The most alarming thing for all the students and professors at Hogwarts was that when the Ravenclaws lost control of their magic, the object they were trying to levitate would often fly off like a cannonball. If another spell was accidentally layered on top, it would become a highly aggressive composite spell. While no one had been killed, serious injury was unavoidable.
According to incomplete statistics: The windows in the Ravenclaw common room had been repaired with Reparo no less than thirty times. The number of carpets, curtains, sofas, vases, and other items in the common room that had been torn, damaged, or burned was uncountable.
Almost every Ravenclaw had been hit by a stray spell from their classmates, and Madam Pomfrey's hospital wing had filed numerous reports for exceeding its budget.
And that was just in the Ravenclaw common room. The situation was worst in the Great Hall.
The Great Hall was where students below the third year gathered, and their understanding of magic was far less developed than the older students. The number of out-of-control spells among them was growing exponentially.
Over the past month, students from the other houses had become extremely wary. They were afraid that at any moment, some random object would come flying at them, a result of a Ravenclaw's "accidental" misfire, and they would be carried off to the hospital wing.
In fact, Madam Pomfrey was seeing new patients every day. Ninety-five percent of them were due to the young Ravenclaws, while the other five percent were from Potions class.
The surge in patients also led to the creation of a volunteer group: the Hogwarts Healing Volunteer Squad, a group of Hufflepuffs who had spontaneously formed. They were all lovers of healing magic, and their dreams were to become Healers or work at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.
Their main job was to help Madam Pomfrey care for patients during their free time. But Victor suspected that these Hufflepuffs were being a little mischievous, too. While their desire to help was genuine, they were also treating the injured students like lab rats.
In addition to the chaos the Ravenclaws were causing, something else had been happening at the school over the past month.
A series of chibi comics had suddenly become popular, and the author was "unknown." The comic strip used a novel and humorous art style. It wasn't very long, only about a hundred pages, with one or two funny stories per page, each consisting of six to twelve panels. It was very captivating.
When the Hogwarts students saw the comic strip, they were completely blown away. They had never read anything so entertaining in their lives and were all eagerly discussing it.
The Slytherins, of course, were the exception. They were extremely annoyed by a specific character in the comic.
The protagonist was a Hogwarts student named Tom Marvolo Riddle, a half-blood wizard and a Slytherin. The comic told the story of Tom's time at Hogwarts, from the moment the Sorting Hat put him in Slytherin until he graduated, featuring many funny and interesting anecdotes.
For instance, when he first started school, a ghost scared him while he was in the loo, and he ran into the corridor with his pants down.
Another story was about him licking an unfinished potion out of curiosity during a Potions class, which resulted in his tongue swelling up like a Lickitung from Pokémon, and he had to be sent to the hospital wing.
Another story told of Tom going to Diagon Alley to buy flowers for a girl he liked. They were 3 Knuts each or 3 for 10 Knuts, and in the end, he bought three flowers.
There were nearly 50 such short stories, and while they were brief, they were genuinely funny. Hogwarts had become a much more entertaining place because of this mysterious comic strip.
