MHGA Chapter 307: Between Hunters and Monsters…

"Let me see how Madoka's training is going."

After finishing his tea, Kairo Retsu picked up his cup and headed toward the training grounds to check on the new hunters' weapon familiarity.

Just thinking about how these new hunters were future transcendental-tier prodigies filled Kairo with a sense of bliss, as if the tea leaves swirling in his cup had turned into honey water.

And then… upon arriving at the training ground where the magical girls were training, he saw—

"Hyah!"

Madoka pulled back her bow with all her might and aimed at the target—only for the arrow to veer far off into the sky.

Sayaka charged at a mechanical faux-wyvern operated by a Felyne, wielding Dual Blades, but without triggering Demon Mode or even proper combos. She was immediately tail-swept by the dummy and sent flying into a nearby bush.

After transforming, Asuka swung a Hammer with zero technique. The weapon's weight threw off her balance, and she staggered like a drunk.

"Go, Kero-chan! Go!" Sakura encouraged Kero-chan, who held a syringe, while she herself tightly clutched an Insect Glaive. Kero hesitated nervously, unsure about extracting and transferring the essence.

Lastly, Mami Tomoe held a Heavy Bowgun with a stable stance, but after witnessing its sheer destructive power, she seemed overwhelmed and no longer dared to fire.

All in all…

The Magical Girl Corps' weapon training was a total disaster. Kairo Retsu's hand trembled violently as he held his teacup, stunned by what he had just witnessed.

This was not what he had envisioned.

Weren't magical girls supposed to instantly master their weapons with genius-level aptitude, blaze forward on their path, and eventually become Gathering Elders who protect world peace?

These were magical girls, for heaven's sake! The type who transformed and immediately leaped into combat!

"Guildmaster!"

Madoka noticed Kairo's arrival. She ran over with small steps, politely greeted him, and asked,

"Are you here to watch our training?"

"Uh… yeah, I came to check on things, but, well…" Kairo gestured with his fingers,

"It's just a tiny bit different from what I imagined…"

"Is… there something wrong with the hunter weapons?" Madoka asked cautiously.

"Sorry, Guildmaster." Her face flushed. "I'll try even harder!"

"No need to overdo it…" Kairo scratched his cheek awkwardly. "We're not the kind of organization that demands rookies become powerful overnight. We're a proper, club-style society…"

He glanced at the girls still fumbling with Monster Hunter weapons (one of whom had transformed into a brawny giant), sighed, and set down his teacup.

"All right, let me teach you. I may not be some transcendent hunter, but I'm more than qualified to show you how to use weapons."

"Listen carefully. These weapons are used by hunters to hunt down powerful monsters that disrupt the ecosystem and violate the balance of nature."

Kairo walked to the weapon rack and effortlessly picked up the Great Sword on the front row.

"Though we don't have a Guild here, as the Gathering Hub's Guildmaster, I must emphasize this."

He looked solemn.

"You must never use these weapons against ordinary people. They are for hunting monsters. Hunters hunt monsters."

"A hunter's duty is to maintain the balance between civilization and nature. They are the arbiters who stand at the border between the wild and the civilized."

He raised the Great Sword.

"To hunt monsters that harm nature… to protect the flame of civilization… to seek knowledge and uncover the secrets of the natural world."

"Most importantly—when the ecosystem teeters on collapse—a hunter must revere life… and sever the source of calamity."

He held the sword horizontally in front of him.

"To slay life, so that more life may continue. To challenge nature—but never seek to dominate it."

"So long as you follow this principle," Kairo concluded,

"The Gathering Hub will always have your back."

"Guildmaster!" Sayaka raised her hand. "This Frenzy Virus we're investigating—is that the calamity you just mentioned? Will the Gathering hunt it?"

"…Yes."

Kairo nodded.

"While hunters don't kill monsters without necessity… Gore Magala and Shagaru Magala are different. They are born to spread the Frenzy Virus—wherever they appear, catastrophe follows. Whenever either is spotted, they must be hunted."

"No exceptions?" Mami asked curiously.

"There can be no exceptions," Kairo said firmly.

"As long as they exist, they spread the Frenzy Virus. Hunters have no means to coexist with them. The only answer is full-scale elimination."

"What pitiful creatures," said Kero-chan, legs crossed, sitting atop Sakura's Insect Glaive. "From birth to death, destined to be targets of extermination."

"They are pitiful—but it can't be helped," Kairo said with a shrug, setting down the Great Sword.

"Unless, as Elder Dragons, they can overcome their innate instincts—but that's… unlikely."

"Enough talk!" Kairo grinned. "I'll personally teach you how to use your weapons! Once we're done here, it'll be time to hunt the Gore Magala!"

"Listen—when it comes to using a Bow, don't just crouch in the corner like Kazuma does! You've got to keep moving…"

And thus, Kairo began hands-on instruction.

Meanwhile, back in the world of Re:CREATORS and at the Gathering Hub, everything was proceeding in order.

The Creators continued progressing with their plans to deal with Altair, while remaining wary of Kairo's faction—who had yet to reveal themselves again.

What puzzled them most was this:

Kairo's group made no moves at all. It was as if they had no intention of interfering, leaving behind only the corpse of the Frenzied monster—and the report that it carried a virus. Then… silence.

While Meteora and the others pondered this mystery, they suddenly received an alert.

A massive, blue, bear-like creature with strange carapace had inexplicably appeared at a construction site—and had already begun attacking workers inside the excavator cabs!
