MHGA Chapter 159 – Laios's Final Showdown (Not Really)!
Just as Kairo Retsu's mind went completely blank, the Laios Chimera pinned under Nergigante suddenly stirred.
It forcibly rose, flipping Nergigante off entirely and leaping into the air once more.
"ROAR!"
Driven by instinct, the Laios Chimera bellowed a warning roar at Nergigante.
Nergigante, for its part, sensed it had just been challenged by this monster.
Moreover, Nergigante picked up on something—this creature seemed to carry a trace of its own scent.

Despite being smaller in size, Nergigante's roar shook the heavens even more than the chimera's. It shot into the air, barreling straight at Laios's monstrosity.

Soon, the others behind them caught on and joined in the shouts of encouragement toward Laios.
High in the sky, the Laios Chimera had begun its fight with Nergigante.
Unknowingly, in a body devoid of human will, Laios had silently become the bearer of humanity's hopes…
Even so, the chimera was forced into retreat, chased by Nergigante through the air out of the Dungeon.
"Quick! Evacuate!" Kairo Retsu shouted the moment Nergigante took off after them. "Memeiko needs a huge amount of Elder Dragon energy to survive! It won't last long in this world! As long as Laios can stall Memeiko… the mission still has a chance!"
"Why is a monster of that level appearing in our mission?!" Joseph yelled.
Kairo didn't dare tell them...
Nergigante might've locked onto the Glavenus during a hunt, only for the Glavenus to be drawn into this world by trail interference… and Nergigante just followed.
While Nergigante's strength among Elder Dragons is only somewhat above average, Kairo was already thinking hard about how to protect more people from it.
"It's fine, it's fine. Nergigante isn't really interested in humans, and it's not particularly hostile either…"
He chanted nervously, leading the Dungeon residents to safety. "Memeiko targets high-energy lifeforms. Humans taste bad. Humans taste bad…"

Then Nergigante, now assumed to be somehow linked to Laios, emerged shortly after and began fighting the chimera.
The aerial battle was one-sided and brutal.
Nergigante rammed into the Laios Chimera with savage force, tearing at its body repeatedly with its massive claws.
Blood and flesh from the chimera rained through the sky.
At that moment, among the elves, one of the fairies began to react.
Mithrun instantly grabbed the one fairy with a signal, and from the other side came Marcille's voice.
"It's working! This fairy can link to the outside! I can't believe one got left behind in the Dungeon…"
"Good! Let me talk!!" Kairo Retsu's voice rang out from the fairy.
"Kairo Retsu?" Mithrun addressed it directly. "What's happening in the Dungeon? And what are those two fighting monsters?!"

Kairo Retsu finally emerged from the Dungeon, the battle overhead was reaching its conclusion.
The Laios Chimera had been savaged by Nergigante into an unrecognizable state.
One of its three heads had even been ripped clean off by sheer brute force.
At last… the Laios Chimera could endure no more. It plummeted toward an empty patch of land, and Nergigante followed.
"I'll go check! Don't follow me!!" Kairo yelled to Laios's companions before rushing toward the crash site.
The other Hunters made the same decision.
They might not be a match for Nergigante—but…
If they didn't even have the guts to hunt, then they weren't worthy of the name!
When they reached the crater where Laios Chimera had fallen, Nergigante was already tearing at its body, seemingly searching for something.
Eventually, it extracted a glowing energy core from Laios's belly and swallowed it whole.
Then… it turned its gaze toward the Hunters.
Kairo Retsu gripped his weapon tightly, stepping forward without hesitation.
All they lacked was time to grow—they were never short on courage to hunt and fight!
With his spirit burning bright, Kairo charged at the Elder Dragon.
And then—
Nergigante swatted Kairo to the ground, sniffed him, and—without hesitation—bit his body cleanly in half.
After chewing for a moment, Nergigante seemed to lose interest. With one final slap to the broken chimera corpse, it took off into the sky and vanished across the horizon.
Only Kairo's upper body remained, lying limply on the ground as he recognized the monster…
It was the same Nergigante—Memeiko—that had once scorned him and Laios for being "nutritionally useless…"
"You're still saying I've got no nutritional value?! MEMEIKO!! I WON'T FORGET THIS!!!!!!"
