Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: A Gate Appears

Chapter 6: A Gate Appears

The afternoon sun was warm but the streets of Emerece City felt unusually tense.

Rumors had been spreading for days—another Gate had appeared nearby.

Gates were mysterious portals that popped up randomly across the world. Dangerous, unstable, and full of unknown summon parts and monsters. Summoners raced to explore and claim the best rewards.

I wasn't planning to get involved. No way I'd rush into a dungeon when I barely knew how to control my summon.

But as I walked home from school, a distant roar echoed through the city streets.

People around me started to panic and scatter.

"Another Gate! Close to the residential district!"

Sirens wailed in the distance.

The city was on lockdown.

Some summoners tightened their grip on weapons and summoned beasts.

I slowed down, hands in my pockets.

The rubber part felt heavier than before.

Whatever was behind that Gate... was a challenge.

And whether I wanted it or not, it was coming for me.

Then, from the shadows near the barricades, a figure stepped forward—a young woman clad in sleek black armor, her eyes sharp and calculating.

She glanced at the Gate, then back at me.

"This place is dangerous. You shouldn't be here."

I blinked. "Why not?"

Before I could say more, a low growl rumbled from the Gate, and something massive started to emerge—a twisted, monstrous hand reaching out.

The crowd gasped and took a step back.

The woman drew a blade that shimmered with eerie blue light.

"Looks like trouble's here. If you want to survive, you'll have to be ready."

The monstrous hand lunged forward with terrifying speed, smashing into the barricades and sending shards of metal flying.

People screamed and scattered in all directions.

The woman didn't hesitate. She sprinted toward the Gate, her blade glowing brighter with every step.

I stood frozen for a moment, my hand resting in my pocket over the rubber summon part. It was just an ordinary object, nothing more.

The crowd's panic washed over me, but I stayed calm—too calm.

The woman glanced back over her shoulder. "If you want to live, follow me!"

Her voice was sharp, commanding.

I hesitated, then started moving.

This was the moment my lazy days ended.

The real fight was just beginning.

he woman dashed forward, blade slicing through the air as the monstrous hand smashed another barricade to pieces.

I followed, moving with surprising ease through the chaos.

The ground trembled with every strike the creature made.

She yelled back, "Use whatever you've got! Don't hold back!"

I took a deep breath, reached into my pocket, and pulled out the rubber summon part.

Focusing my mana, I called on the system.

I didn't hesitate.

A right hand appeared beside me, normal-sized and steady.

Without flashy effects, it shot forward—stretching out like a spring—and slammed into the monster's arm with a thwack.

The creature growled, staggering back.

The woman smiled briefly. "Not bad."

The fight was just starting, but I was already moving.

The monstrous hand swung wildly, crashing down toward us with earth-shaking force.

I barely rolled to the side, feeling the wind roar past my face.

The rubber hand snapped forward again, stretching out and blocking the strike just in time.

Cracks appeared where the summon's fingers met the beast's rough skin.

The woman charged in, blade flashing like lightning, slashing at the creature's wrist.

The monster howled in pain but didn't back down.

I concentrated, sending more mana through the summon.

The hand's movements became quicker, striking with precise jabs aimed at the monster's joints.

"Keep it distracted!" the woman shouted.

I nodded, focusing on defense and rapid strikes.

The battle raged on—noise, dust, and raw power clashing under the dark sky.

Despite my lazy nature, adrenaline kicked in.

I wasn't just a bystander anymore.

I was fighting to survive.

The creature emerging from the Gate was massive—towering over the barricades and soldiers alike.

Its skin looked like cracked, dark stone fused with patches of rough, twisted metal.

Jagged spikes jutted from its broad shoulders and forearms, shimmering faintly with a sickly, greenish glow.

Its hand, the size of a small car, ended in thick, claw-like fingers that scraped the ground as it moved.

Gnarled veins pulsed with a faint eerie light beneath its rough surface.

From its back sprouted several whip-like tendrils, each tipped with razor-sharp barbs that whipped through the air unpredictably.

The monster's face was hidden in shadow, but a pair of glowing, orange eyes burned with savage intelligence.

Every movement sent tremors through the street, and the air was thick with the scent of ozone and burnt metal.

It wasn't just a beast—it was a living weapon, twisted and deadly.

The monstrous creature let out a guttural roar, its massive clawed hand smashing into the ground with a force that cracked the pavement beneath us. Dust and debris flew into the air, making it hard to see.

The rubber hand stretched out swiftly, intercepting the swipe and absorbing the impact with a sharp thwack. Cracks spidered across the summoned hand's surface but it held firm.

The woman darted forward, her blade slicing through the air with precision, aiming for the glowing joints between the monster's armored plates. Each strike sparked faint blue light as it connected, momentarily staggering the beast.

With a roar of frustration, the creature whipped one of its barbed tendrils toward us. The whip lashed through the air, aimed straight at my head.

I barely dodged, feeling the wind whip past my ear.

The summoned hand shot forward again, jabbing at the tendril to deflect it. The rubber stretched like a spring, wrapping around the barb before snapping back, pulling the tendril off balance.

The monster snarled and swung its massive arm in a wide arc, forcing the woman to leap backward.

Breathing hard, I focused my mana again.

This summon may not be flashy, but it's fast and reliable.

The fight was far from over.

I focused deeply, my mana flowing steadily into the rubber summon part.

The right hand formed beside me, steady and ready.

Then, without hesitation, the hand exploded into action.

Fingers curled, then flicked forward—one punch after another—rapid, relentless, like a storm of rubber bullets.

Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam!

The hand unleashed a furious barrage of punches, each strike hitting the monster's arm and torso in quick succession.

The force of the rapid punches sent shockwaves through the creature's armor, rattling its massive frame.

The beast snarled, staggering under the assault, unable to react fast enough to block the barrage.

Around me, the air seemed to hum with the speed of the attack.

The woman's eyes widened in shock.

"That's... that's the Gatling Gun!"

I didn't say a word.

I just kept firing.

The monster staggered under the relentless barrage of punches, struggling to keep its balance.

Before it could recover, the woman charged forward with lightning speed.

Her blade gleamed with blue energy as she leapt high and came down in a powerful slash, cutting through one of the creature's whip-like tendrils.

The beast roared in pain, swinging wildly.

She rolled aside expertly, then lunged again—this time striking at a glowing weak point revealed beneath the monster's armored plates.

With a final, echoing roar, the creature collapsed, the Gate's dark energy flickering and weakening.

The woman landed gracefully, breathing hard but steady.

She glanced at me and nodded.

"Not bad. You've got potential."

I shrugged, slipping the rubber part back into my pocket.

The Gate's swirling darkness began to fade, its ominous hum growing faint.

Emergency crews rushed in to secure the area, while summoners and guards worked together to clean the mess left behind.

The woman sheathed her blade and turned to me.

"Name's Reina. I'm part of the city's elite summoner squad."

I nodded, still catching my breath.

"That was your first real fight, wasn't it?"

"Yeah," I admitted, voice low. "Didn't think I'd last this long."

She smirked. "You surprised me. Most rookies freeze or run."

I glanced down at the rubber part in my pocket.

"It's not much, but it works."

Reina's expression softened slightly.

"Good. You'll need that attitude. Gates are only getting worse."

As the sun dipped lower, shadows lengthened across the city.

I knew my life was about to change. Fast.

No more lazy days.

The real world was waiting.
