Chapter 55 - Chapter 54: Truth?

"Knowing how he is and what he is trying to do, he is apprehensive of someone or all of them in that little group? Right?", her eyes pierced into him, dragging the truth she already suspected.

Baki remained silent as he avoided looking at his mother, afraid that she might glimpse at something in his face. Unfortunately for him, his silence confirmed more than words could deny.

"So I am right. I don't think he thinks of his daughter like that, at least for now. It isn't a possibility I would discard immediately considering what he has done to his wife and youngest child.", her lips curled with disgust at the memory, the venom in her words thicker than sandstorms.

"That little girl... Daiana, right? Her growth in being a medical nin is remarkable but not threatening enough for him, otherwise he would have discarded the old goat a long time ago.", her fingers tapped the cane in restless thought, each sound echoing her calculated judgment.

"So it comes down to the two boys... I don't think it is Shira, the little one certainly has a big potential in Taijutsu and that weird technique at the end, but I don't think he is that scared of him yet, otherwise he would have never approved of him attending the academy.", her tone softened slightly here, a rare note of fairness slipping through.

Baki started sweating at this point, a bead of sweat traced his temple, betraying the fear he fought to mask.

"The only one left is that boy. Isan. I heard you and other instructors talk about him, he doesn't stand out much, in comparison to the previous three but for the paranoid man to regard him as such, there is something there. A bloodline perhaps?", her voice sank lower, weighted with both suspicion and dread.

"Now I know that he is scared of anyone with potential to surpass him, otherwise Pakura, that beautiful and loveable girl, wouldn't have been suddenly been caught in a trap and died as a result.", her eyes flickered with grief, but the flame of anger quickly consumed it.

"Baki, it's useless for you to try and hide things from me. What bloodline is he so afraid in a little boy?", her cane struck the sand once, demanding an answer.

"... his chakra elemental affinities turned out to be: Earth, Water and Wind.", Baki closed his eyes and resigned himself, letting out a long breath and told her what she wanted to know.

"Earth... Water... and Wind... it can't be... he isn't that paranoid, is he? No, he certainly is capable of such. Does he think the boy is a descendant of the Senju?", her voice broke in disbelief, the weight of the thought nearly crushing her composure.

Baki returned to being silent, not offering any confirmation or refusal to his mother' claims.

"If he was there would be signs, of course. First he would have abnormal chakra reserves for someone of his age and his talent for ninjutsu would also be above average... to make sure he would have placed the little one in a stressfull situation so that the danger to his life would bring his talents to the surface. He did it, didn't he?", her glare stabbed into him like kunai, the unspoken answer already clear.

Baki once more remained silent, although he closed his eyes and his lips thinned, his silence now heavy with guilt.

"That idiot. I heard that that 'desert trial' he suddenly came up with resutled in many casualties, it was related to that. I am sure of it.", breathing heavily Elder Hana felt even older right now as her mind weighted on the casualties that had taken place for the schemes of their Lord Kazekage.

"Seeing that the boy is still walking around... he isn't some lost descendant of 'God of Shinobi' or a Senju, right? So that isn't it... I highly doubt it he would be so apprensive about him if there was any indication of him being of the Yuki clan... so we can discard that. There is even a lower chance of him being of the Kazekage clan, and seeing him still so apprensive about him... there is only one possibility then.", her voice trembled with reluctant clarity, as if dreading the very words she was about to speak.

Baki tried to slid away without being noticed, when Elder Hana's voice rang out in the dead silence that had fell on the training yard.

"Kekkei Tōta?"

Baki stood still in his place without turning around to even face his mother, as small shivers could be seen throughout his entire body.

"He is incredibly stupid and an idiot if he thinks that could be the case! There is only one known case of a Kekkei Tōta and that is of the Second and Third Tsuchikages! And they aren't even related to each other, how absurd it is to think that little boy could be the carrier of a bloodline limit, a Kekkei Tōta at that and tormeting him slowly to confirm his suspicions!!", her voice rose like a storm, fury laced with despair, the weight of her words echoing across the barren yard.
