Chapter 23 - The Devil We Serve

The Divine Court Overview The Divine Court is a three-God pantheon worshiped as a unified celestial governance. The trio—Lumara, Nyssar, and Ursla—embodies a balance of creation, order, and renewal. Their followers describe the divine realm as a celestial court where laws are deliberated, oaths are sworn, and destinies are weighed. The Three Gods 1) Lumara, The Creator Queen -Patron of artisans, healers, farmers, and those who cultivate new beginnings. 2) Nyssar, The Warden of Law - Domain: Justice, Order, and Truth. Patron of judges, scribes, soldiers, and diplomats. 3) Ursla, Queen of fortune- Domain: Renewal, change, fate, war and love. Patron of the saints, repentant. She speaks to the Divine Oracle - Symbol of the divine court: A radiant sun-lobe encircling a blooming seed.

Clank! Clank!

Steel rang out, sharp and unforgiving, the echoes scattering into the cold air. Chris and Herla — comrades of Ragnarök, yet rivals in the moment — tore apart after the blow, boots scraping on the dirt. Swoosh — Herla's next strike split the air before her feet even stilled.

The temperature intensified, the ground slowly turning molten under the pressure of Chris' aura.

Herla's aura wasn't much different, after all, Chris was the one who taught all the Knights of Wilbert.

Boom.

The two dashed at each other once more, their swords meeting in a fiery brilliance. Chris's swing slowed, his aura flickering. For the first time, his stance wasn't aimed to kill but to question.

"What is it, Sir Chris?" Herla redrew her aura and sword. "You have something on your mind."

"Herla," Chris sighed, lowering himself onto a bench "to you, who is a knight?"

"A knight's duty is to serve and protect their lord." Herla replied, a look of confusion in her eyes.

Chris's jaw tightened. "But if the law of a lord commands slaughter, and the world accepts it… am I evil for resisting, or loyal for refusing?" When the land burns, when innocents vanish — does a knight still call that duty?

"What makes something evil?'' Herla asked, taking her seat by Chris "Isn't it just morally bad?" She paused, looking at Chris' confused face.

"Yerh" Chris nodded.

"Morals…" Herla traced her fingers along the hilt of her blade. "Aren't they just rules? What one man calls evil, another calls justice. Society writes them, we inherit them. But are they truth, or only tradition?"

"The divine court..." Chris couldn't complete his retort, just staring intently at Herla.

"Evil is only what the strong fail to justify. If you resist him, you'll be the villain. If you serve him, you'll be the hero. Isn't that what history always teaches?" She paused "That day we almost died, it wasn't the gods who saved us, it was Adrian, even if he becomes the devil, I'll still serve him."

The winds entered a standstill after Herla's declaration.

As the two knights continued their banter, the world still moved on. As the sun set and the two moons slowly rose into the sky, Valhalla stood before a small shrine.

This time around, he wasn't with Adrian, but the Beasts of the forests. They observed their king from the shadows.

-The Black Flash- Lord of Uthean.

The one who protects us in the dark,

the great king of beasts,

the lord of speed-

A text on the shrine's tablet read, The scent of incense reached him first. Offerings of fruit, steel, and blood lay before his image. He whispered — not in pride, but in unease — "They worship me… again." Valhalla questioned himself. He looked at the several offerings of the Utheani before the shrine, they brought back memories from his Old world, when he was revered as the Dragon King.

Valhalla smiled, keeping all his offerings in his pocket space, then leaving behind requests if there were some, however, one particular re-occurring request caught his attention - Revert Uthean to its peaceful blessed state-

"Don't you dare harm any of those that come here to worship..." He warned the beasts, his voice sending chills down their thick hides. Then he unfurled his wings and took flight..

Whilst one summon was away, one stayed behind to torment the summoner.

Current day- Adrian's Manor

"Can't you just stay quiet?" Adrian frowned as he focused on his Excelet monitor (Gaming Pc), playing a trending open world online game.

"Give me my freedom, and I would do just that!" Zethar roared; unlike Valhalla, he showed no gratitude for the pseudo life Adrian gave.

"You are being sustained by my mana, if I let you go. The laws of the world would notice you and crash you immediately." Adrian said. His summoning magic defied the nature of the world, instead of signing pacts with beasts and creating beast realms, he helped characters break the fourth wall. This was only possible due to the fact that his mana existed on a different wavelength that opposes the worlds' laws, almost like anti energy from the Anulian.

"Then we strike a deal." Zethar said, his eyes closed and sighing "You might have infinite mana and adaptation, but you still can't utilize them fully due to your incompatible body. That's why you summoned Valhalla and me."

Adrian paused the game and turned to face Zethar. He could only summon 3 more as powerful as Valhalla and Zethar, so he needed them to be on the same page. Zethar had been summoned because Adrian felt his temporal flames would be able to fight the Anulian.

"I can't promise to be a dog like Valhalla, but I'll give you my strength," Zethar said, his face widening into a large grin " but in turn, I want a domain of my own with no interference from you."

"When you tried in your original world, you were stopped by the Nenkage," Adrian said. "fine" He nodded. 'If I give him a domain, will he plant rebellion?'

Knock. Knock

"What is it?" Adrian asked

"Lady Eloise Thorne seeks an audience."

Adrian smiled as he heard this, Eloise?

'Why did I smile?' He wondered
