They ran through corridor after corridor. Servants jumped out of their way. Some nobles that were loitering in the corridors with the opposite gender, flirting, all stared in confusion.
One unfortunate footman nearly dropped an entire tray of wine trying to avoid being flattened by the sprinting prince.
By the time they reached the banquet hall, all three of them were breathing harder.
The banquet hall remained crowded with people. Music still played, people still laughed and conversed with one another, wine still flowed...it felt absurd.
The queen had been kidnapped, a High Priestess had infiltrated the kingdom, and these people were discussing marriage alliances and trade agreements. Even though they have no idea of all these things, it still felt absurd to people that actually do know what's going on.
