Episode 32 – Shadows Beneath the Light
Faizi Tian sat quietly inside the mountain hall. Outside, a snowstorm raged, but within, the atmosphere was calm and sacred. A faint fragrance of incense lingered in the air, and spiritual energy flowed smoothly like a silent river. His mind still lingered on the Demon Seal trial — he could still feel the dense heat inside his Flame Core, a remnant of the power he had absorbed during the trial.
Footsteps approached from the door. Elder Ren entered, his expression as calm as always.
"Faizi, how is your recovery?" His voice carried a tone of genuine concern.
"Good… but I feel my flame patterns are slightly unstable," Faizi replied.
Ren examined his flame patterns closely, then gave a mild smile. "That's natural. You're growing very fast. I'll give you a special breathing technique to stabilize your flame."
Faizi thanked him… yet he noticed something odd — Ren's gaze lingered a little too long on one particular section of his spiritual flame, as if searching for something specific. Faizi said nothing, but a small spark of suspicion ignited in his heart.
The next few days passed in training. Elder Ren gifted him a rare talisman to suppress demon aura. "Use this only when the situation is beyond your control," Ren instructed. Faizi accepted it… but saw that strange ancient symbols were inscribed on it — symbols he had only ever seen once before, in the ruins of the Abyss Flame Clan. It could have been a coincidence… but Faizi's memory was sharp.
One night, when all the disciples were asleep, Faizi slipped quietly into the sect library. There, he searched for the talisman's symbol in the old records. Information was scarce, but in one dusty scroll, he found the exact same mark — and the note beneath it read: "Seal mark granted by the Abyss Flame Monarch."
Faizi closed the scroll, his heart heavy. Why would Elder Ren give him a talisman linked to an ancient Abyss ruler? Was it just a relic… or something more?
The next morning, during training, Faizi asked casually, "This talisman's symbol… it seems ancient. Where did you get it?"
Ren smiled faintly. "From a very old place… you don't need to worry." He instantly changed the subject.
Faizi said nothing. It wasn't time to ask more. But he understood one thing — there was a shadow hidden behind the light.
The episode ended with Faizi Tian standing atop the mountain peak, training in the cold wind… while deep in his heart, the first true seed of suspicion toward Elder Ren had taken root.
