Raven woke up with a groan.
His ribs throbbed and his gut felt like someone had stuffed it with molten iron.
'Where am I?'
He wondered.
It quickly came back to him.
He remembered using the skill, Nyx countering easily with effortless strikes, the crushing weight of her knee in his stomach and the lecture she gave him after that. Raven didn't remember her exact words, but he did remember the gist of it.
He remembered her carrying him out of the training room and dumping him in cold water—probably a bathtub.
'It seems like I'm always ending up in a new location without knowing how I got here.'
Before Raven transmigrated, fainting or being knocked unconscious wasn't a normal occurence. Now it was routine.
The only days since transmigrating that he hadn't been knocked out was during his stay at the hospital!
"I guess I only have myself to blame for being weak.'
He sighed, forcing himself upright.
"Good morning."
Nyx said, walking into the room with the same expression as always, balancing a tray of food in her hands.
"Good morning."
Raven greeted as Nyx set the tray down on a bowl on the floor.
'It also seems that Nyx is always coming in at the exact time that I get up.'
He mused.
In the end, Raven shrugged it off.
'I doubt a PRU agent, a strong one at that, doesn't have something better to do than to spy on me while I'm asleep. It's probably a really strange coincidence.'
He decided.
Raven was about to raise his hand to eat, but before he could the spoon was already at his mouth.
"If I may ask, where am I?"
Raven asked as soon as he done eating.
"You're at my place."
She replied simply.
'Of course I am.'
There wasn't really anything special about the bedroom; a moderately sized bedroom with just a bed and a mat. Nothing extra.
If anything, it felt a little bland.
"I thought I would be staying with Reo?"
Raven asked.
"You and Reo will no longer be staying together."
She answered as she stood up with the same tray with her hands, only this time it was empty.
Raven blinked, obviously surprised.
"May I ask why?"
Her lips quivered slightly at his words.
"Well, after the bonding moment you shared with him, I was afraid you two would grow too."
She answered.
There was no doubt in his mind now—she had watched him destroy Reo's balls.
"Also, you'll go on your first job today." efewfw
"Oh.... okay."
He answered absentmindedly.
"Wait."
Raven called out.
"Yes, Raven?"
Despite her words, there was no annoyance in her tone.
Raven hesitated for a moment before allowingt he words come out of his mouth.
"Have you eaten?"
....
Both Raven and Reo were in Nyx's office, with the woman in question watching both of them, her expression as unreadable as always.
"Reo." She began. "Raven here will personally be joining you in your patrols from now on."
Nyx said.
Almost immediately, Reo reacted. His body stiffening as soon as she finished her words.
"Ms. Nyx, if I may, Raven here will only slow me down. He has no experience in this kind of work."
The boy argued, though his tone was respectful.
"So he'll learn." She replied, resting her chin on her hand. "And besides, he'll only slow you down if you encounter any threat."
The silence that followed was thick and long.
"Yes, ma'am."
He gave a stiff bow before leaving, not bothering to glance at Raven once.
"Raven."
"Yes?"
Her gaze lingered on him
"Good luck."
"Thanks."
He immediately turned and walked in the direction of the door.
'Hee's probably going to try to leave me behind.'
Raven wouldn't allow that.
For the sole purpose of messing with Reo.
'Though would it really matter, Nyx made it sound like finding beasts on patrol was a rare occurence.
"Oh, wait."
She called out.
"Yes?"
He answered.
"Meet me in the training grounds at 7pm."
"....Fuck."
He cursed in a low voice as he exited.
Raven found Reo outside the PRU building, the boy was scaling the walls of the building with ease.
'Can I do that?'
He mused.
'I think so.'
Both he and Reo were awakeneds, they were only one rank apart—which wasn't much, but it was quite the strength gap.
'If I follow him from a distance and make it look like I found him, it'll annoy him more.'
Hence, Raven crouched then leapt in the direction of a nearby building.
His fingers caught the ledge, using it to haul himself onto the roof.
His actions caught the gazes of bystanders, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary so they quickly lost interest. In a world where only 10% of its inhabitant were awakened—not counting beasts—even such a clumsly display wasn't worth gawking at for long.
"I wonder how Celestine is doing."
It was a random thought.
She wasn't his sister—she was the sister of the original Raven, the boy whose body he currently inhabited..
He almost laughed at himself.
"We really are similar."
He voiced aloud.
Perhaps that was why they were together now.
Both had lost siblings.
Not only that but both of them were stricken with debt left behind by their parents.
"Oh crap."
Reo was no longer in his pheripheral vision, in his place was a black dot.
He increased his pace.
'I thought in patrol you'd have to be more vigilant.'
Unlike last time he didn't let his thoughts fully engulf him.
But it did make him wonder.... Just how rare were beast sightings that Reo was only leaping from building to building?
The boy clearly didn't take his time to examine his surroundings.
He was treating this more like a race, a race he already had in the bag.
Raven watched as Reo—or his figure at least—stopped on a rooftop.
He quickly moved in the boy's direction.
By the time he caught up, he saw Reo at the edge of a rooftop.
"....Hey."
