Chapter 2 - My Dear Charlotte

Amidst the embers and searing flames that burned with intensity, Lotte was left suspended in what felt as though it was the ocean, but she had no problem breathing, nor did she have any discomforts, nor any pain that felt unbearable to her. She couldn't see, nor could she hear. A light, however, shone through the eye sockets that were once empty, now blinked a new pair of ember eyes, and through them she could see something strange. She looked in further, curious as to what it was that she was witnessing before her. She saw her mother hold a baby up above her head with pure love and adoration in her eyes. The baby looked back, reflecting a pair of amber-like eyes that stared down at her mother equally as enamored and enchanted with her mother's beauty. The baby laughs with joy.

"Charlotte," a rough, deep voice spoke from behind Lotte, who had been watching the scene unfold. Turning around, Lotte set her eyes upon him once again—the man. He stood wearing a silk shirt tucked in a pair of dark pants, his feet adorned by a myriad of dark shoes. Lotte took a step back in awe. He was a god made man. She watched intently as his voice, losing its deep and rough commanding stature, turned soft and smooth—a melody to her ears. The baby her back had been turned to cooed in adoration for this man, her full attention on him.

A smile burnt brightly unto his face. He walks past Lotte, his arms both reached out with a beaming joy in his face. The baby in her mother's arms, reaching out, struggling to reach him. Her mother, watching the scene unfold before her, let go, and the baby crawls in desperation to reach her father's arms. The struggle wasn't unfounded. Reaching his arms, he picked her up, his amber eyes burning with intensity, the baby reflecting the same intensity. "My dear Charlotte," he says with a love that sparked fierce in his heart. He held her close to his face, her forehead touching his. "Good morning, my love." The baby, in response to his voice, cooed and begins to clap her hands in joy, laughing and smiling, the sun radiating around them. Her mother, gasping in awe, smiling to herself, holding her heart.

Lotte sits there, tears began streaming from her eyes. She begins to cry and reaches out to him. Getting up, running after him, she reaches him only to have it all disappear. She cries profusely, turning around, lost and in pain. "FATHER!!!!" she screams loudly. A pair of amber-like eyes gaze at her through the darkness. She, without hesitation, chases after him, her hand stretched out, hoping to reach him, but he vanishes. She drops to her knees, her arms wrapped around her. She begins to whimper. Closing her eyes, opens them once again to find herself in the arms of her mother's lifeless body. She jolts up, looking around her. She's in the forest again.

She looks around her, the dark and cold forest enclosing her. The only source of light shown is the moon above. She wipes her tears, but more keeps pouring out. She hits the floor in frustration, screaming into the ground. "WHY, WHY, IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL END, BUT YOU WOULDN'T LET ME REST AND REMAIN WITH THEM. WHY, WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME? WHY WOULDN'T YOU LET ME FIND PEACE AT LAST WITH THEM? WHY THIS AGAINNNN!!" Bitterness bled profusely in her tone and voice. She hears a growl coming from behind her. She turns around and sets her eyes on a wolf—one that approached her slowly. She stepped back, bumping into her mother's corpse. She trips. She falls back on the dirt. The wolf lunges forward, this time targeting her deceased mother.

In a reflexive manner, she jumps, blocking the wolf that sinks its teeth into her arms. She screams in agony. "Not again. I won't let you take her again. This time I'll protect her, even if I die here," she says resolutely, picking up a branch, smacking it on its forehead, making it jump back, whimpering. It runs away in fear. She thinks to herself she could finally breathe before she hears growls all around her. Using the stick as a crutch, she wills herself to stand before holding it towards the pack in front of her. Her mother's corpse behind her, she runs forward, swinging the stick, hitting the wolf in front of her. The others begin to pounce, surrounding. She fends them off, gritting her teeth, swinging with madness.

She fights till she's overpowered. Getting past her, one knocked her down. The other bites the stick she holds, tossing it to the side. Another bites her ankle. She screams in agony. The previous one she had fended off rose from the forest, placing its paw on her chest, making her unable to get up, while the others run past her towards her mother's lifeless form. She screams, "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" Her voice rings throughout the forest, but no one hears her. In her state of panic, she gazes at a pair of amber-like eyes similar to her own—the same one she had seen in her vision. The very same one she last saw before she lost her life in her previous life.
