Chapter 51 - He Showed the World, Not M

After a few weeks of sadness and unrest, I'm slowly pulling myself back together. I have to—I'm about to marry another man.

My heart is in one place, my mind in another.

All the painful memories stayed with me.

No matter what I say, no matter what I do—it's all meaningless now.

I've slowly started to accept it.

Chris had disappeared into the dark.

No voice. No light.

Nothing.

And honestly, I don't even think he'd answer my calls anymore if I tried.

So I didn't.

Not for a while.

Our wedding was planned for mid-August.

Venue booked.

Organizer hired.

It wasn't too extravagant.

We were both putting in effort—financially and otherwise.

I was still living in my old apartment.

But I was almost ready to move out.

Then one night—late July, I think—I sat alone in my room and checked Chris's social media.

Why did I look?

Why didn't I stop myself?

God... what am I seeing?

Chris got married.

Chris. Got. Married.

And not just that—he posted the wedding photos for everyone to see.

There she was.

In a white dress.

Smiling.

Laughing.

Kissing him.

And all I could do was stare.

Chris...

You never once mentioned you had someone in your life.

You never gave a sign.

When?

How did you decide to marry someone in just four months?

Or…

Had you already decided?

Were you just waiting for me to say something first?

Maybe I beat you to it.

I was the one who told you I got engaged.

That night in March.

I called you.

You picked up.

I cried.

You said nothing.

And now, here you are—posting your joy for the world to see.

Like nothing ever happened.

Like we never happened.

And the worst part?

You made those pictures public.

You wanted me to see them, didn't you?

You wanted me to suffer.

To bleed from the inside out.

Well, Chris—congratulations.

I won't wish you happiness.

I never could.

You may never pay the price for what you did,

but I still carry the cost of every nightmare you left behind.

Tell me—

when I said "I'm engaged" in March,

were you already planning this?

You married in July.

Four months.

Just four.

And you proudly showed it all to the world.

So tell me, Chris:

What did she have that I didn't?
