Chapter 29 - The Spirits Within and the Whispers Without

After what had just happened, Kin Ouren sat quietly in the dim corner of the bedroom, trying to collect his breath… and his thoughts.

The scent of vanilla lingered faintly in the air—the same fragrance that had saved him.

"My pheromone… That monk was right," Kin thought, closing his eyes. "I really do have this… power."

Guided by instinct, Kin sat cross-legged on the wooden floor and began focusing his energy. He had no real training, no spell, no chant—just the monk's guidance and his own raw intuition.

He closed his eyes, released his magical pheromone softly into the air, and called—not with words, but with will.

To the wolves. To the protectors. Come to me.

And then—they came.

Soft pawsteps… shimmering outlines in the air… golden eyes glowing.

Wolf spirits.

They circled him slowly, their energy warm and wise. One spirit bent its head, gently brushing Kin's hand with its nose, and Kin felt a surge of strength ripple through him.

They had accepted him.

They had blessed him.

He was no longer alone.

---

Just then, the front door opened.

Kin didn't need to turn to know—Vixen Sature had returned.

Even before Vixen stepped into the room, Kin caught the unmistakable scent—sweet vanilla-honey, divine and intoxicating.

He barely had time to think.

The moment Vixen entered, Kin rushed into his arms and pulled him close, burying his face in his chest.

Vixen blinked, surprised. "Kin?"

But Kin didn't answer. Instead, he lifted his head slightly—and pressed his lips against Vixen's.

What started as a kiss turned into something deeper… hungrier.

Desire. Longing. Fire.

Vixen responded instinctively. His alpha pheromone surged in the air, intertwining with Kin's own. Their bodies pressed closer, movements desperate but tender.

Within moments, they fell into bed—skin against skin, heart against heart.

That night, their bodies tangled under the soft, moonlit sheets—a union of soulmates born in past lives and reunited against the odds.

Later, breathless and warm, Kin lay with his head resting against Vixen's chest. The steady rhythm of his lover's heartbeat calmed his racing mind.

Quietly, Kin began to speak. He told Vixen everything—about earlier that evening, about the wolf spirits, and about the call he had with Shen Seizan.

"Shen's coming to Zemura soon," Kin whispered, tracing small circles on Vixen's arm. "He said he wants to stay for a while…"

Vixen smiled, brushing Kin's hair back. "That's good. I won't always be home… and you shouldn't be alone. I'm glad you'll have someone."

Kin looked up. "You're enough for me."

Vixen leaned down and kissed his forehead.

They had dinner late that night and soon returned to bed, arms wrapped around one another.

---

But the night was not done.

At 3:16 AM, Kin's eyes snapped open.

A sound.

A whisper.

Right beside his ear.

> "Still watching you…"

Then—a soft, demonic giggle. Unnatural. Twisted.

Kin sat up in a cold sweat.

Vixen stirred beside him, still half-asleep. "Kin…? Are you okay? Why are you up?"

Kin's voice trembled. "I heard it again. The… the laugh. And the whisper."

Vixen pulled him close without another word, holding him tight. "I'm here," he murmured. "Sleep now. I won't let anything touch you."

And Kin, safe in Vixen's arms, finally closed his eyes again—even as outside, shadows stirred, and whispers waited.
