Part 1
The next day, Han Yue woke up around noon. These days, there was no need to rise early—everyone had gradually adapted to the Base's reversed schedule. Life was more active at night now, and the daytime had become a time for rest and recharge.
She stretched lazily before heading downstairs to find something to eat. While munching on a plate of dumplings, she noticed Grandpa Long sitting at the corner of the living room, chuckling as he chatted over a video call. It was Grandpa He again.
"Xiao He," Grandpa Long asked through the screen, "is the hospital at your place fully set up now? Can they do general checkups, blood work, maybe even minor surgeries?"
Grandpa He grinned proudly. "Of course! That's actually why I decided to come to Base J earlier than I planned. It's strange—this base feels more relaxed and friendly than the others I've passed through, yet it's still well-equipped. I heard someone generous exchanged a few seawater converters for a whole batch of secondhand medical equipment. Everything's practically new and really well-maintained."
Grandpa Long let out a satisfied "Ahh," then nodded. "That's good to know. We'll come visit you later this evening, then. By the way, how's your son and daughter-in-law getting along these days?"
At that, Grandpa He's face twisted into a grimace. "Don't even bring them up. Those two can't go a single day without fighting. My poor son comes home from work, and that silly woman immediately starts nagging and yelling. They scream at each other all night, and my poor little granddaughter just cries and runs into my arms."
Grandpa Long let out a sigh of sympathy—but then unexpectedly burst into laughter.
Grandpa He narrowed his eyes. "Hey, what's so funny? Come on, spill it."
"Haha! I just remembered something hilarious. I'll tell you later," Grandpa Long said, still snickering to himself as he ended the call.
When he looked up, he noticed Han Yue still eating quietly, watching him with a curious expression.
He grinned and walked over to join her at the table. "Little Yue, we'll head over to Base J later, okay? I heard their hospital is fully equipped. We should get a checkup. I can't wait to see the melons!"
Han Yue nodded. "Shadow 8 is our driver, okay? He insisted."
"Shadow 8, huh?" Grandpa Long chuckled. "That silly guy really likes this kind of thing. It's good let him drive us around."
The rest of the day passed in peaceful quiet. Han Yue didn't go to training today. She needed to save her energy—she'd be going out later that night, and it was very likely she wouldn't be back until morning.
After all, tonight… was melon night.
Part 2
By 6 PM, as the sun dipped and the night lights flickered to life, a blacked-out car rolled into the compound as promised. Shadow 8 was at the wheel—and to Han Yue's surprise, Shadow 5 was seated beside him.
A few minutes later, Han Yue, Long Yi, and Grandpa Long got into the car. As Han Yue closed the door, she glanced at the front and raised an eyebrow.
"Why did you bring Shadow 5 along?" she asked, mildly amused.
Shadow 8 didn't even hesitate. "Hmph! It's good for fellow greenhats to gather. Emotional support, you know? Hehehe."
Shadow 5 turned his head and glared. "He said Boss ordered me to drive everyone to Base J!!"
From the backseat, Grandpa Long let out a chuckle and patted Shadow 5's shoulder. "Boy, it's alright. At least you'll learn not to be fooled so easily next time. Life lessons!"
Long Yi, sitting beside Han Yue, ignored the commotion. He simply took her hand and intertwined their fingers. With his other hand, he tapped away on his smartwatch.
"Secretary Wen," he typed, "add 500 extra laps for Shadow 8."
A moment later, the reply came:"Understood."
Han Yue, who saw everything, rested her head on Long Yi's shoulder and snickered softly.
The drive took three hours. By the time they reached Base J, the night was fully alive. The streets were well-lit, patrol teams moved in formation, and citizens bustled about completing tasks and missions. Base J's energy felt completely different—efficient, yet oddly vibrant.
At the guarded entrance, Shadow 8 pulled out a sleek black card embossed with a silver government emblem. The guards immediately straightened, saluted, and waved them through—no questions asked.
Han Yue blinked. "Wow… What's that card? Why were they so respectful?"
Long Yi replied calmly, "I had Secretary Wen request ten of those when we sent our documents to the central command last time."
Han Yue tilted her head. "But won't we get exposed if someone traces it back to us?"
"Not necessarily," Long Yi said. "Those cards are issued to various ranks—officials, big donors, scientists, military officers. No one has the time or resources to monitor every single one. We blend in."
Han Yue nodded. "I see… Hehe. That's clever."
After passing through the outer gates, the car wound its way toward the villa district. The air here was cleaner, quieter, and the area was well-secured with its own gated community. Luxury residences lined the streets—each home spaced generously apart for privacy.
They showed the black card again at the gate and were allowed entry.
Grandpa Long made a quick call: "Old He, we're here!"
A few minutes later, they pulled up outside a spacious, warmly lit villa. Waiting at the gate was a cheerful little girl waving both arms in the air excitedly.
As soon as the doors opened, she rushed forward and launched herself at Han Yue.
"Sister Wizard! You're finally here! Hehe, I missed you!" she squealed.
Han Yue laughed and lifted the girl into her arms. "Oh? My little sponsor! I missed you too~" she teased gently, spinning her around once before setting her down.
Grandpa He emerged from the doorway, grinning. "Come in, come in!"
Inside the house were two more figures: his son, He Wenhai, and daughter-in-law, Liu Liyun. Both greeted them politely and helped guide them toward the sitting room, where an impressive spread of tea and fresh pastries awaited.
The atmosphere was warm and comfortable.
He Xiaoxiao, the little girl, handed Han Yue a cookie and sat close to her. "Sister, I saw your post about the little bunny. She's still so small! I didn't know bunnies could stay tiny forever!"
Han Yue grinned. "She's a special one."
She then opened her shoulder bag, and—pop!—a small head with fluffy ears poked out. The bunny blinked, wiggling her nose and ears adorably.
"WAAAH!" Xiaoxiao gasped in delight. "She's here! She really fits in that tiny bag? Hehehe!"
Han Yue gently handed the bunny to her. "Be gentle, okay?"
Xiaoxiao held the soft ball of fluff with utmost care. "Ok ok!!"
The adults continued chatting over tea, laughter echoing through the cozy villa while the children—one real and one fluffy—played nearby.
Part 3
The living room was warm with conversation and soft laughter, tea cups clinking as the group relaxed. Han Yue nibbled on a cookie, Shadow 8 and Shadow 5 drank tea quietly on the side, and everything felt surprisingly peaceful.
Until Liu Liyun's phone rang.
She politely excused herself, stepping out to take the call.
The moment she disappeared, Grandpa Long's eyes twinkled. He leaned forward with a suspicious grin and reached under the table, pulling out two small giftboxes.
"Hehe… Finally," he muttered, sliding the boxes over to Grandpa He and He Wenhai.
Han Yue raised an eyebrow, intrigued. Even Shadow 5 and 8 paused mid-sip, their gazes immediately locking onto Grandpa Long like two wolves sensing prey.
Grandpa He and his son exchanged a look, then opened the boxes together.
Inside—two bright green hats.
There was a beat of silence.
Han Yue nearly choked, burying her face into Long Yi's shoulder to muffle her trembling laughter.
"WOW… Grandpa is savage."
Shadow 8 couldn't hold it in. He sprayed his tea and shouted, "WOW OLD MASTER! YOU'RE SO EVIL!" then doubled over in silent hysterics.
Long Yi remained completely unfazed, simply tightening his arm around Han Yue's shoulders to let her lean more comfortably.
Meanwhile, Grandpa He squinted. "Old fox… what is the meaning of this?" His tone wasn't angry—yet. "Are you implying my son isn't mine?"
He Wenhai also frowned. "Are you saying I'm wearing a green hat?"
Grandpa Long looked far too pleased with himself. He leaned in and said, voice low and grave:
"I heard a rumor… That a certain daughter-in-law is planning to sell her own daughter to a research lab. Apparently, it's to cover up the fact that the child might not be from this family at all."
The air froze.
Then he continued, tone serious now. "I didn't take it lightly. I asked our security division to investigate. They accessed her messages and call logs."
He pulled out a folder and handed it to Grandpa He.
Inside were screenshots—chat history printed clearly.
"Are you still selling the 5-year-old girl? I can offer 10,000 points.""She's ready. Just say when."
Grandpa He snatched the pages, eyes narrowing as he scanned them. His face darkened with every word.
Beside him, He Wenhai stood up sharply. "That evil witch! She's only five!"
His voice trembled with fury and disbelief.
Han Yue finally spoke up, gently but firmly. "These are serious accusations… but let's get proof first. How about we take off the green hats and go to the hospital for a DNA test?"
Grandpa Long nodded in agreement. "That's right. Facts first."
Grandpa He closed the box and silently carried it to his room, shoving it under the bed. He Wenhai didn't say a word—just kept glancing toward Xiaoxiao, who was still playing with the bunny on the floor.
With a sigh, he walked over and picked her up.
"Daddy!" she squealed, throwing her arms around his neck.
He hugged her tightly. No matter what the test said—this was his daughter.
A few minutes later, Grandpa He came out and declared, "Let's go."
They informed the butler that they were stepping out. The loyal old man bowed deeply and assured them, "Leave the house to me. I won't let anything slip through."
Two cars rolled out from the villa and drove toward Base J's hospital.
Shadow 8 showed the black government card once again, and they were granted priority access. Normally, DNA results would take 2 to 3 days—but tonight, they were promised results in just three hours.
While waiting, Han Yue, Long Yi, Xiaoxiao, and the two Shadows decided to visit the nearby night market.
The streets were buzzing with life. Neon lights lit up colorful signs, the air was filled with food aromas, and stalls lined both sides of the roads, selling everything from jade to grilled meat.
Han Yue's eyes sparkled. She grinned and tugged Long Yi's hand. "Let's go!"
Xiaoxiao ran ahead with Shadow 5, dragging him toward the snack stalls.
Some fans spotted Han Yue in the crowd and excitedly whispered to each other. Respecting her space, they quietly took a photo and posted it on Weibo:
"OMG! Look who I spotted at the night market!! The wizard couple hahaha 😭💘"
At a jade stall, Han Yue inspected a few small pieces. After testing them, she picked several—real jade, low to mid-grade—and paid the full price: 10,000 points.
The vendor nearly cried with joy. "Thank you, thank you! No one ever buys this much without haggling!"
Han Yue just smiled. "I need it for something important."
She continued browsing, picking out a few more real pieces from among the fakes. Then she bought a bunch of snacks—candied fruit, meat skewers, sweet rice balls—and shared them with the group.
Xiaoxiao hugged her again. "Sister Wizard, you're the best!"
Three hours passed quickly. They returned to the hospital lounge, where Grandpa He, He Wenhai, and Grandpa Long were sitting calmly, sipping tea.
The gloom from earlier was gone.
Grandpa Long had worked his magic—convincing them that it was a blessing to uncover betrayal before it was too late. "Now you can protect your granddaughter. That's what matters."
Han Yue quietly admired him.
"Sigh… Grandpa's mind really is on another level."
Soon, a doctor entered the lounge, holding an envelope.
"The results are in," he said.
After reviewing the data and giving a short explanation, he delivered the conclusion:
The child shares no blood relation with either He Wenhai or Grandpa He.
There was silence.
Grandpa He's jaw clenched. He Wenhai's hands curled into fists.
Long Yi finally spoke, calm but firm:"We've gathered all evidence—chat logs, the research lab contact, and the attempted sale. You can report this now. The lab is already under surveillance. They're being investigated for human experimentation and child trafficking."
He looked directly at He Wenhai.
"And you have everything you need to arrest your soon to be ex-wife."
Part 4
After Long Yi handed over the USB drive, He Wenhai finally nodded with resolve."Alright. I'll go make an official report."
The others agreed to return to Grandpa He's house and wait for the melon to ripen—so to speak.
🍵 Back at the He Residence
The drive back was filled with quiet excitement. Shadow 8 even hummed a victory tune while driving.
Inside the house, Liu Liyun was lounging calmly in the living room when they entered. She greeted them with a smile.
"Welcome back. Did you have fun at the market?"
Xiaoxiao happily skipped in and answered, "Yes! It was so fun! We got to eat so many snacks!"
Then she ran off to play on the rug with the little bunny again.
Everyone else took their seats, enjoying the cool iced tea the butler served. The atmosphere was casual and polite—but beneath it, tension simmered.
About an hour later, the faint wail of police sirens began to echo in the distance.
Han Yue sat up straight.Shadow 8 leaned forward.Grandpa Long set down his teacup with a sly smile.
"It's time."
The sirens grew louder—until finally, red and blue lights flooded through the windows.
The door opened sharply. He Wenhai entered first, followed by six uniformed police officers and one stern-looking detective.
Without hesitation, He Wenhai pointed."There she is."
Liu Liyun's eyes widened. Her body stiffened, trembling as she rose from the couch.
But the officers were faster.
They moved in and cuffed her hands behind her back. "You are under arrest for attempting to sell your daughter to an illegal research laboratory," one officer stated coldly.
Liu Liyun began to scream."This is a misunderstanding! I would never— You can't do this to me!"
Her voice echoed, desperate, as she was dragged away by the police.
On the side, little Xiaoxiao watched everything with a frightened expression. Her small voice trembled, "Selling… your daughter?"
She looked toward Han Yue, confused and teary-eyed.
Before panic could set in, Grandpa He moved fast. He scooped her up in his arms, hugging her close."Don't be sad, Xiaoxiao. Grandpa's here. I'll protect you."
She held onto him tightly, her small hands clutching his shirt as she silently cried.
They didn't leave right away.
Grandpa Long and the others stayed for a few more hours, offering quiet company and support.
He Wenhai, sitting with a weary sigh, finally explained what had happened at the police station.
👮 The Police Station: Earlier That Night
"When I arrived," he began, "I told the officer on duty that I needed to speak with a detective. I said I had evidence of human trafficking and illegal experimentation."
His hands tightened around his teacup.
"They took me seriously—immediately called in a senior detective and several investigators. When they saw the USB, they took me to a meeting room and projected the files on a screen."
First came the chat history—his wife negotiating with someone about selling their daughter for 10,000 points.
"Then I showed them the documents… proving Xiaoxiao wasn't biologically mine. My wife… she must have been afraid the truth would come out."
The room fell quiet for a moment.
"But then we opened the deeper files," Wenhai continued. "Contact details of traffickers. Location data of a suspected private research lab. And worse—photos…"
His voice dropped, eyes haunted.
"Photos of children in cages. Corpses in jars. Body parts labeled for 'study.' It was… grotesque."
Everyone listening felt their stomachs churn.
"They decided to arrest Liu Liyun immediately and confiscated her phone. The lab is now under surveillance. The police are preparing to move on it soon."
💤 Winding Down
The clock neared 3 AM.
Grandpa Long finally stood and stretched his back."You've experienced enough today," he said gently. "Rest. We'll head home now."
He patted Grandpa He's shoulder. "Keep in touch, alright? And keep that little girl safe."
The three-hour drive back to their base was quiet. Han Yue was completely worn out—dozing off halfway, her head leaning on Long Yi's shoulder.
When they finally arrived at their home, Long Yi effortlessly carried her out of the car like a sleeping princess.
Behind them, Grandpa Long shuffled out slowly, grumbling.
"Hmph. You don't even help your tired old grandfather anymore. Sigh…"
Long Yi raised a brow and turned to Shadow 8. "Escort Grandpa upstairs."
"Yes, sir!" Shadow 8 quickly jogged over to help.
Long Yi continued up the stairs, carrying Han Yue to her room. He laid her gently on the bed, tucked the blanket around her, and closed the door softly.
🕵️ Outside the Door…
Shadow 8 and Grandpa Long were tiptoeing near Han Yue's door, ears pressed to the wood.
"What do you think, is something spicy happening in there?" Shadow 8 whispered.
"Shh! Don't breathe so loud," Grandpa Long whispered back.
The door creaked open behind them.
Long Yi stood there with a blank expression.
Caught.
He glanced down at them, then snorted and turned toward his own room.
The two eavesdroppers froze… then slowly straightened up and tried to act casual.
"Tch. No fun," Grandpa Long muttered.
They both went off to their rooms—finally, truly exhausted.
Shadow 8 yawned wide. "What a day…"
