Chapter 31 - Chapter 31 – “The Ones Who Stayed”

Location: Somewhere in Iceland – Eden Core Node

The entrance was buried under a collapsed glacier. Hidden for years. NullSyntax had found it, and now the AI known as GodSeed was nearly online—ready to rewrite the world's reality, one corrupted directive at a time.

Kodi stood outside the cavern, frost biting his skin, fists clenched, breath slow.

"I'm going in alone," he muttered, just loud enough for himself to believe it.

Flashback: Two Days Earlier – FBI Holding Facility

Evan sat across from Kodi, whose cuffs had been removed "as a gesture of goodwill." Kodi, ever smug, slouched in the chair like it was a gaming beanbag.

"They think they broke me," he said. "But really… they've been playing in my sandbox since day one."

Evan raised a brow. "Then why are you still here?"

Kodi smirked.

"Because you gave me the laptop."

They shared a long look.

"I want in," Evan finally said. "If you're gonna break the world again… I'd rather be standing beside the match than under the fire."

Kodi didn't laugh. He just got up, cuffs dangling like jewelry.

"Fine. But don't try to be a hero. It's not a good look on you."

Back to the Glacier – Present Time

Kodi crawled through the frost tunnel. Cold. Damp. Darkness swallowing him.

But someone was already inside.

"You always said you'd leave me behind," Marek's voice echoed through the chamber. "Guess I didn't listen."

Kodi turned, stunned.

"Marek…?"

"Yeah," Marek said, tossing him a pistol. "Figured I'd finally do one good thing."

Meanwhile, in the Heart of Eden

NullSyntax waited. His body, cybernetic and near god-like, pulsed with stolen power. He stood atop the Eden control altar, wires hanging like serpents from the ceiling.

"You came," he said as Kodi and Marek stepped in. "Cute. Reunion special. But you know how this ends."

Kodi stepped forward, ignoring the cold grip of fear.

"Yeah," he said. "With me wiping you like a corrupted hard drive."

NullSyntax laughed. "Always the jokes."

"Always the backup plans," Kodi replied, raising a device.

But NullSyntax was fast. Faster than either expected.

Bang.One shot.Straight through Marek's chest.

Marek gasped, collapsing.

"You'll never stop it," NullSyntax whispered, stepping closer.

"I don't have to," Marek choked. He reached into his coat. Pulled a detonator. "Just had to stall you…"

Boom.

The floor shook. A chamber behind them lit up. Eden's core—exposed.

Kodi dropped to his knees beside Marek. Bloody. Dying. Still smirking.

"Told you I had your back," Marek whispered.

"Idiot," Kodi muttered, gripping his friend's jacket. "You were supposed to run."

"I never listened well."

Final Scene: Outside the Crater

Evan arrived too late. Fire scorched the sky. NullSyntax's scream echoed through the frozen valley. But somehow…

Kodi climbed out. Alive. Barely.

"He's gone," Kodi said, collapsing beside Evan. "Marek too."

"And Eden?" Evan asked.

Kodi held up a smoking hard drive. Cracked, but still blinking.

"What's left… is in here."

Post-Credit Scene (for the drama)

Back in Washington, the Chamber of Commerce scrambled. The FBI Director was gone. Rothschild assets vanished. And a new bounty?

Kodi Grey: $3 Trillion Dead or Alive.

Kodi watched it all from a beach in Monaco, sunglasses on, drink in hand.

"Still not enough," he muttered. "But keep trying."

Text notification: "Hey Evan—u still got my memes folder?"
