Nathan's wooden blade arced downward in a killing blow, his grin wide with vicious triumph. The students gasp in anticipation, their cheers a tidal wave of noise.
But Arios did not falter.
His left hand flared with a faint shimmer of blue light, the mana coursing like molten steel through his veins. In a single, practiced motion, he funneled that energy across his body, slipping it into the already materialized Azurine Blade with a motion so subtle the untrained eye might miss it.
The runes within the sword activated in response.
For an instant, the weapon shimmered faintly— something like a heartbeat, no more— and then the world snapped into clarity.
