The World of Vestroia: A Guide for Readers ( Spoilers Warning!! ⚠️)
This chapter is meant to clear up any potential confusion about the world of this novel. There would be some spoilers ahead.
As you've read through the chapters, you may have noticed a mix of modern and fantastical terms. On one hand, you've seen things like airlifts, tablets, headphones, and karaoke. On the other, you've encountered concepts such as mana, cultivation, treasures, spirit veins, and a feudal system of nobles and knights.
To get straight to the point, the story is primarily set in the Kingdom of Vestroia. This is one of the major kingdoms within the human domain, but other domains, such as those of elves, fairies, demons, and goblins, also exist. These domains are separated by a vast, mana-saturated sea that is impossible to cross. This is where dungeons come in. These "gates" or rifts appear in the human domain and link it to the others. One of the primary responsibilities of Mage Knights is to explore these rifts, gather resources and treasures, and prevent hordes of creatures from invading.
For a clearer picture of the world's appearance, imagine a technologically advanced, non-skyscaper version of medieval Europe, the continent that serves as the inspiration for many fantasy stories. The technologies in this world aren't powered by fossil fuels, but rather by an industrial revolution sparked by advances in mana crystal synthesis.
The inspiration for this blend of technology and magic comes from anime like Boruto, where modern tech gradually appeared in the hidden villages. It's also a reverse of The Irregular at Magic High School, where technology comes to a world of mana rather than mana being introduced to a technological world.
