Chapter 74 The Uchiha Clan Is Wiped Out [Part 1] [First Update]
Itachi Uchiha carried Izumi Uchiha, who was still somewhat immersed in the illusion, back home. Shisui gazed at the full moon in the sky and suddenly felt a sense of melancholy.
"Shisui senior, why do you look so gloomy?!"
Seeing the somber expression on Shisui's face, Sakura couldn't help but hold her forehead. That sorrowful look—was he going for the melancholic artist vibe?
"I'm thinking about whether I should find some time to look for a girlfriend!" Shisui said seriously while stroking his chin. Both Fugaku Uchiha and Mikoto Uchiha, as well as Itachi and Izumi, had greatly shocked him tonight.
"Go for it! I believe in you!" Sakura replied, trying not to laugh. She hadn't expected an unexpected bonus today. Besides, originally Shisui Uchiha died far too early—in this timeline, his destiny has already changed; indeed, it was time for him to find a girlfriend.
Possibly affected by the illusion, in the following days, Itachi didn't go to Anbu, instead spending time with Izumi Uchiha wandering and shopping around the village. The sweet atmosphere made Sasuke feel very uncomfortable.
"I wonder what's up with my brother lately? He suddenly became so close with Izumi! And Father and Mother too..."
When Sasuke thought about his family's current situation, he felt a toothache coming on. His older brother constantly clinging to Izumi was bad enough, and when he got home, he also had to witness his parents showing off their affection—it made Sasuke feel he would eventually die from emotional distress.
"Just get used to it. And... cherish this time while you can. For the next few years, you won't be able to see them anymore."
Sakura didn't say anything explicitly, sighing quietly. She wondered how Sasuke would feel when, several years later, he learned the truth behind the massacre.
"Sakura! Sakura! Let's go on a date too!" Naruto suddenly appeared before Sakura, filled with expectation. "I saw Itachi-niisan and Haruka-neesan seemed really happy during their lessons!"
"Couples going on dates are naturally happy!" Sakura rolled her eyes. "As for us, why would two kids go on a date?"
"Because I like you, Sakura!" Naruto mumbled shyly. He never forgot that day in the sunlight when Sakura firmly told him, 'You're not the Demon fox!'
"Kids shouldn't overthink stuff like this. You're only seven, after all. What do you even know about liking someone? What kids call 'liking' is usually just a fleeting crush. Real love is something that lasts through time!"
Sakura was already deeply aware of how precocious children could be in the ninja world. However, seeing Naruto's disappointed expression, she finally softened.
"Fine, if you want to go window-shopping, I'll accompany you. Since your body keeps growing, I need to prepare more clothes for you anyway!"
"Sasuke, wanna come along? I can help you pick out something stylish," Sakura turned to Sasuke, who was sitting there with his eyes closed.
"Nope!"
Sasuke's temple twitched as several blue veins popped out. His older brother was out there flaunting his happy relationship with Haruka all day long, while his parents weren't even hiding their affection at home. He, on the other hand, was left completely alone—just a single kid stuck dealing with this emotional storm. Now asking him to endure more affection from his teammates was simply too much to bear. "My name is Sasuke Uchiha, not Second Pillar! Could you please stop giving me these weird nicknames!"
"What's wrong? Scared this nickname will damage your image at school? Worried all your little fangirls will abandon you?"
Sakura rolled her eyes instinctively. Although some things had changed because of her interference, certain facts remained unchanged—like how popular Sasuke continued to be. From the moment he entered the academy, Sasuke had become an idol for all the fangirls (excluding herself, Ino, and Hinata, of course). As people who knew full well that the boy was an older-brother-obsessed kid, none of them were impressed by his icy, cool guy act. They hadn't forgotten that every time someone mentioned Itachi Uchiha, Sasuke would immediately light up and start babbling endlessly about his big brother, completely dropping his usual cool facade.
"Hmph, I don't like being followed around by them," Sasuke scoffed. He originally acted cold precisely to avoid being constantly bothered, but ironically, his aloof attitude only made him even more popular.
"Such a hypocrite."
Sakura muttered under her breath. Please, as if she didn't know better! Though he claimed to hate it, secretly enjoying the admiration of so many people must have pleased Sasuke quite a bit—he was still just a seven-year-old child after all, untouched by life's true trials.
After spending the whole day running around town with Naruto, Sakura learned in the evening that Sasuke had been kept after class by Teacher Iruka. Instantly understanding what this meant, she realized today might indeed be the night of the Uchiha clan massacre.
Outside the Uchiha compound stood Itachi Uchiha, expressionless, dressed fully in Anbu attire. Blood-red eyes radiated killing intent.
"You really are heartless, wanting to destroy your entire clan like this!"
Space fluctuated. Masked and intentionally altering his voice, Obito Uchiha appeared beside Itachi. Fully aware that Itachi served as Sandaime's spy, Obito understood perfectly but chose not to reveal this information.
"Their fate was sealed the moment they attempted rebellion."
Itachi's expression never wavered. Under Danzo's scheming design, even the Third Hokage believed the Uchiha clan had conspired rebellion, intentionally altering their behavior to lower others' vigilance—an assumption seemingly validated by concrete evidence provided by Uchiha elders.
"You truly inherited the Will of Fire, didn't you?" Behind Taka's mask, his eyes flickered with deep sorrow. The Will of Fire indeed! Hadn't he once also been a passionate young man dreaming of becoming Hokage? Unfortunately, unpredictable events had twisted the world into something unbearable, forcing him through bloodstained hands into irreversible darkness. Yet once the Moon Eye Plan succeeded, he'd finally be able to reunite with Rin again.
