Shisui lifted his head. The three tomoe in his eyes rippled and transformed into the shape of a giant windmill.
"Oh? You're confident in your Mangekyo Sharingan's power?"
Danzo asked with a meaningful glance, his expression flickering with unreadable emotions.
"My Mangekyo Sharingan has a jutsu named Kotoamatsukami—it lets me completely rewrite someone's will. If I use Kotoamatsukami on Elder Fukasaku, the Uchiha clan won't start a coup!"
Shisui's plan was simple—he'd take control of the leading elder, and the rest of the Uchiha wouldn't dare start a rebellion. However, Shisui didn't realize that Danzo's real goal had never been to bring peace to Konoha and the Uchiha clan.
"Is that so?" A cold smirk curled on Danzo's lips. "But how can I believe you'll actually control them instead of joining forces with them?"
"Lord Danzo, I—"
Before Shisui could explain, Danzo cut him off. "I think the best way is for me to carry out this plan myself. That way, everything will go perfectly."
"But only my Kotoamatsukami can control someone's will. In short, no one else can control minds like this—only I have that power!"
Shisui frowned, a sudden sense of unease rising within him.
"Then why don't you just hand over your Sharingan?"
Danzo's eyes gleamed with killing intent. Mangekyo Sharingan—the power he'd longed for, the legendary eye said to rival even Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage. Today, it would finally become his.
"What?"
Shisui froze. He hadn't expected Danzo to actually covet his Mangekyo Sharingan. As a member of the Uchiha clan, no matter how peaceful he wished to be, he couldn't possibly hand over his Sharingan to another person. Especially since his Mangekyo possessed the terrifying Kotoamatsukami technique. If someone ill-intentioned obtained it, chaos would surely follow.
"Just hand over your Sharingan quietly."
Danzo's face twisted with greed. At the thought of soon possessing Kotoamatsukami's power, excitement surged within him. Once he implants Shisui's Mangekyo Sharingan into himself, he could use Kotoamatsukami to control the Third Hokage, forcing him to give up the position of Hokage as if he chose to do so. Then he could achieve his dream effortlessly.
"Lord Danzo, please show restraint! The Mangekyo Sharingan does not belong to outsiders!"
Shisui spoke with growing anger. Even if some members of the Uchiha sought rebellion, he still couldn't allow their sacred Kekkei Genkai—the Sharingan—to fall into outside hands.
"Is that so?"
A chilling smile spread across Danzo's face. Then, without warning, his left hand shot out like a bolt of lightning, aiming straight for Shisui's right eye.
"I will never trust anyone from the Uchiha clan. It's better I handle the plan to pacify the Uchiha myself!"
"Smack!"
"I'm sorry, Danzo-sama."
Shisui tightly gripped Danzo's left hand. The power of his Sharingan instantly activated, trapping Danzo within a genjutsu.
"I'll resolve this tonight using Kotoamatsukami. Danzo-sama just needs to wait for my message!"
After saying that, Shisui released his grip and let the now-genjutsu-controlled Danzo collapse onto the ground. He turned around, ready to leave. However, just as he turned, he sensed something cutting through the air from behind him. Immediately, he dodged sideways.
"Ahh!"
He barely dodged the attack from behind when suddenly pain shot from his right eye, unbearable and intense. A stream of blood continuously trickled down from his right eye socket.
"What? How is it possible to break free from my genjutsu so quickly?"
Covering his right eye, Shisui's remaining visible eye was filled with shock. The genjutsu he'd placed on Danzo should have taken time to break, even with outside help. So why had it collapsed so quickly?!
"And here, I should thank my grandfather's old classmate, Kagami Uchiha!"
Danzo tore off the bandages covering his right eye. Before Shisui's eyes appeared a Sharingan slowly losing its luster.
"Grandfather? Could it really be... ?"
Shisui started in confusion. Yet once he saw Danzo's right eye, all uncertainty vanished, replaced only by fury. The evidence was now clear — Danzo must have removed his grandfather's Sharingan and transplanted it into himself. And as for how he broke free from the genjutsu so quickly, looking at the fading Sharingan, everything immediately clicked into place inside Shisui's mind.
[Izanagi] — one of the forbidden techniques of the Uchiha clan. This technique records the user's condition during the moment the jutsu activates using the Sharingan. Then, during the technique's duration, any damage received — even death itself — could physically revert back to the recorded state stored within the Sharingan.
This was an utterly horrifying forbidden jutsu — it made the user seem completely unstoppable.
But it came at a great cost. To use Izanagi required sacrificing one Sharingan. The reason Danzo broke free from Shisui's illusion so quickly was precisely because he used the Izanagi ability embedded within the Sharingan that originally belonged to his grandfather — Kagami Uchiha — and had since been transplanted into Danzo.
"Even though Kagami is gone, his strength can still serve me well — continuing to help me protect Konoha. As Kagami's grandson, you should obediently hand over your Sharingan too!"
With practiced ease, Danzo placed the Sharingan he held into a glass vial carried on his person. Inside the vial was a special solution capable of keeping the Sharingan intact, waiting until the appropriate time for transplantation.

Anger burned endlessly across Shisui's face. He never imagined Danzo would go to such extremes. His own grandfather, Kagami Uchiha — hadn't he and Danzo been classmates together? Both were students under the Second Hokage. And yet after his grandfather died, not even his complete body could remain undisturbed — both his eyes had been torn away.
"Wouldn't he be happy knowing his power continues protecting Konoha?"
Danzo didn't feel even a trace of guilt. Even if Kagami was his classmate, so what? In the end, Kagami was still a member of the Uchiha clan. As someone who inherited the great ambitions of his teacher, Second Hokage, Danzo had absolutely no fondness for anyone from the Uchiha clan.
