Yanran's cheeks flamed red. She gazed at him for a long moment, then, unable to contain herself, snuggled deeper into the blanket.
She didn't speak again, letting silence and the warmth of their shared embrace convey what words could not.
Outside, the wind carried the promise of change. Within the courtyard, Ye Chen held Yanran firmly, resolved.
Wutan City awaited, and with it, the challenge of securing their future...but he would face it, undaunted.
The path ahead was dangerous, but the child within Yanran gave him strength. Nothing...no sect politics, no family disputes, no enemy....could stop him from protecting his woman and their unborn child.
The early morning sun bathed the main peak of Yunlan Sect in a soft, golden light, scattering warmth across the grand hall.
Ye Chen had risen early and made his way to see Yun Yun, the sect leader, with a determined look on his face.
"Senior Brother, it's still early. Why don't you sleep a bit longer?" a gentle voice asked.
Ye Chen turned his head slightly, smiling faintly. Before him stood Nalan Yanran, her long black hair cascading down her back, slightly messy but charming in its natural state.
In her hands was a comb, and she quietly approached him, kneeling behind him to comb his hair. She looked delicate, fragile, and obedient....the perfect image of softness and care.
"I'm not sleeping," Ye Chen replied calmly. "The sooner I leave, the sooner I can come back and be with you again."
Hearing this, Nalan Yanran's heart skipped a beat.
But before she could say anything, Ye Chen suddenly turned, wrapped his arms around her waist, and lifted her gently onto his lap. She blinked in surprise, her soft, fair face flushing pink.
"Senior Brother… what are you doing?" she asked softly, her voice trembling.
"Nothing," Ye Chen replied, his eyes locking onto hers. "Just… looking at you."
He reached out and gently pinched her cheek, his voice soft yet firm.
"While I'm away, you have to take care of yourself. Eat well, rest well, keep yourself healthy. If I come back and see you have lost weight, I won't forgive you."
Nalan Yanran's hand instinctively touched her own face, a little nervous. "Am I… really that thin?"
Ye Chen shook his head quickly, a smile tugging at his lips. "Not thin. I just mean… I don't like it when you're too skinny. You should be soft and healthy."
He reached his hand down and lightly touched her thigh, feeling the softness and warmth beneath his fingers.
His heart fluttered at how perfect she felt. "That's better," he murmured.
Nalan Yanran let out a relieved sigh, her heart swelling with happiness.
She thought to herself, As long as Senior Brother likes it, that's enough. As long as he's happy… I'm happy too.
Ye Chen's eyes darkened slightly as he remembered the boldness Nalan Yanran had displayed the night before.
A small wave of desire stirred within him, though he quickly suppressed it.
"Yanran… about last night…" Ye Chen leaned closer, his voice low. "Where did you learn that?"
Nalan Yanran's cheeks burned crimson. She lowered her head, feeling both shy and embarrassed. "I… I saw it in a book Hu Shijie gave me," she said softly.
Ye Chen frowned slightly. He had heard of Hu Shijie before....a woman known for her open and provocative ways.
At one point, she had even tried to seduce him, but he had refused without hesitation. He wasn't the type to sleep with someone who wasn't a goddess-level beauty.
"You should stay away from her," Ye Chen warned, his voice serious. "Don't let her influence you in the wrong way."
Nalan Yanran pouted slightly. "But Senior Brother, don't you… like it?"
Ye Chen paused, his lips pressing together for a moment. "No," he said finally, shaking his head.
Nalan Yanran's lips trembled, a hint of disappointment in her eyes. "Then… I won't practice it anymore," she said, her voice soft and reluctant.
Ye Chen wanted to argue, to tell her it wasn't necessary, but he restrained himself.
He looked at her, seeing the little curls of hair framing her flushed face, the tender innocence in her eyes, and felt his heart soften.
You've made my favorite chicken soup, haven't you?" Ye Chen asked, a faint smile appearing on his face.
"Yes," Nalan Yanran replied cheerfully. She had woken up early to prepare the soup for him. "Drink it before you go."
Ye Chen nodded, sitting down to sip the soup. The aroma filled his senses....it was made with care, and he could taste the warmth of her devotion in every sip.
It was a specialty of Yunlan Sect called "Cloud Chicken," known for its nourishing properties.
Just a few spoonfuls could restore vitality, and now, it also carried the love and concern of Nalan Yanran
You've really grown, Yanran. You're strong and capable," Ye Chen murmured to himself, feeling a deep warmth in his chest.
Once he finished the soup, Ye Chen stood and looked at her. "This journey will be long. You must stay safe."
Nalan Yanran walked with him to the gate, her steps slow and hesitant. "Be careful, Senior Brother…" she whispered, her voice thick with worry.
