After boarding the Shinkansen, Gin and Vodka found a seat towards the back.
It wasn't a holiday, so there weren't many passengers.
Seeing no one around, Vodka started chatting freely with Gin.
He chuckled. "Aniki, a while back, that woman Miyano Akemi quit her bank job and started working at a bar, right?"
"At first, I thought she was trying to find a sugar daddy, to scam some old men out of their money!"
"But a few days ago, she came to me trying to exchange those maple leaf gold coins!"
"It was only then that I realized she's gotten involved with that notorious robber who's been all over the news!"
Gin said nothing, just listened silently.
Vodka was used to Gin's quiet demeanor and continued, "The news recently reported that the robber broke into the police headquarters and rescued that Italian guy, right?"
"He must have been after those maple leaf gold coins, and now they've ended up in Miyano Akemi's hands!"
"I wouldn't believe it if you told me there was nothing going on between them!"
At this point, his brow furrowed with worry. "Aniki, what do we do now? If we let her continue, she might actually manage to gather a billion yen!"
"Hmph," Gin sneered. "It doesn't matter. Whether she gets the billion yen or not, she will die. As for that robber... he's not worth mentioning."
Vodka grinned. "You're right, Aniki. That stupid woman is doomed."
He checked his watch. "Aniki, it's almost time for the transaction!"
Gin nodded, and he and Vodka stood up to leave the car.
As they reached the connecting passageway between the cars, Gin stopped without warning.
"What is it, Aniki?" Vodka asked, confused.
"Wait," Gin said, moving to the side to hide.
"Oh," Vodka replied, accustomed to his boss's strange decisions.
Gin watched as Vodka stood brazenly in the middle of the passageway and said in a cold, slightly exasperated tone, "Don't stand in the middle."
"Oh!" Vodka finally understood and mimicked Gin, hiding to the side.
The two of them waited there quietly.
Several passengers passed by, assuming they were just waiting to get off at the next stop, and paid them no mind.
After five minutes, Vodka checked his phone again and reminded him, "Aniki, we have ten minutes until the transaction time!"
Gin still said nothing.
Vodka suddenly had a revelation. "Ah! I get it! You're planning to intercept our target here and conduct the transaction right here!"
"That way, if she has any tricks up her sleeve, we can disrupt her plan!"
"You're brilliant, Aniki!"
He shot Gin a look of admiration, feeling that his boss was the boss for a reason.
Just then, the car door opened, and someone approached.
It was Shinichi.
The moment he pushed the door open and saw the two men in black, he instantly regretted it.
He didn't know if they were waiting for him or just getting off at the next stop.
Regardless, turning back now would definitely arouse suspicion.

"You were the one spying on us at Tropical Land, weren't you?"
Shinichi's face was a mask of grim uncertainty.
He realized he had been spotted at the station; they had just pretended not to notice, deliberately baiting him.
"Wh-what are you talking about? I don't know you!" Shinichi forced himself to feign confusion, trying to suppress his panic.
At this point, playing dumb was his only hope of getting through this.
"Hah, playing dumb with me, are you? Let me jog your memory!" Vodka sneered and landed two hard punches.
Shinichi hadn't expected the simple-minded Vodka to be completely immune to verbal persuasion.
After taking two hits, his head spun, and he saw stars, as if his great-grandmother were beckoning to him from the afterlife.
"Aniki, what do we do with this kid?" Vodka turned and asked.
"The usual," Gin said, taking out a pill case. He took out a pill and forced it down Shinichi's throat.
A few minutes later, Shinichi collapsed on the restroom floor. After a brief convulsion, he went still.
"That Sherry woman is annoying, but the drug she developed is really effective!" Vodka said with satisfaction.
"Let's go. We don't want to be too late," Gin said, turning to leave, unwilling to waste any more time on a dead body.
"Yes, Aniki." Vodka closed the restroom door and quickly followed.
The two of them proceeded to their transaction as if nothing had happened.
Noon.
At Teitan High School, Shiraishi brought his lunchbox to Class 2-B.
He wasn't too surprised to learn that Shinichi had taken the day off, as the boy often did so to handle other people's cases.
While eating lunch with Ran and Sonoko, he checked his current mission progress.
[Current Mission: Accumulate 1 billion yen in stolen funds. Current Progress: 125 million yen.]
Of that, 25 million yen was from his collaboration with Akemi, from splitting the 50 million yen they got from gunning down the Nichiuri syndicate members. 100 million yen was from intercepting the Organization's blackmail money at Tropical Land.
Then there were the maple leaf gold coins in Akemi's possession, worth 600 million yen. His share would be 300 million.
That would bring the total to 425 million yen.
He still needed 575 million yen to reach the goal.
