Annie, focused on the battle in front of her, didn't notice that the two hostages had been successfully rescued. Inside the device, Oakley was busy with something and paid no attention to Natsui's group.
Gardevoir, holding Lorenzo with one hand and Bianca with the other, used Teleport to move them to the back of the battlefield.
Before they could even steady themselves, Bianca said anxiously to Natsui and Ash, "Natsui, Ash, you have to save Latios quickly!"
Lorenzo was more concerned about the Soul Dew than Latios. He reminded Natsui, "Be careful. They've figured out how to use the gem and that device. The entire city of Alto Mare is under their control now!"
Natsui nodded. They had already witnessed the power of the Soul Dew, from the city-wide defense system to the revival of fossil Pokémon. It was extremely powerful, and who knew what other abilities awaited them.
In the distance, hearing Bianca and Lorenzo's voices, Annie finally realized they had been quietly rescued. However, she didn't seem to care. After all, they had both the Soul Dew and Latios. Their main goal had been achieved, and the hostages were now useless to them.
In the center of the room, Jolteon used its incredible agility to keep a safe distance from its enemies, never giving them a chance to get close while attacking with various Electric-type moves. Ash's Pokémon—Totodile, Bayleef, Cyndaquil, and Noctowl—also fought bravely, showing great strength.
Of course, the most impressive of them all was Pikachu.
With its small body, Pikachu weaved through the fossil Pokémon, leaping onto a Kabutops's head one moment and then onto an Aerodactyl's back the next. It then used Thunderbolt, taking down several nearby fossil Pokémon at once.
With their combined efforts, fossil Pokémon were being defeated one after another. Although they were outnumbered, their strength was not that great. The tide of the battle seemed to be turning in Natsui's favor.
Seeing another Aerodactyl fall, Annie quickly turned to Oakley inside the device and yelled, "If you don't do something soon, we'll be in trouble!"
"I know!" the silver-haired woman's voice came from inside the sphere. "Don't worry," she said calmly. "They're about to witness the true power of the Soul Dew!"
Just as Oakley said, at first, Natsui and the others didn't think much of it and focused on defeating the fossil Pokémon before them. But as they fought, they noticed something was wrong.
Countless streams of seawater began to flow into the room from all directions, through doors and windows, in a way that defied logic. In just a short time, the water gathered into a small waterspout and swept toward them.
"Noctowl, blow it away!"
Before Natsui could act, Ash had already seen that this waterspout was different and quickly commanded his shiny Noctowl to disperse it.
Noctowl flapped its wings, and a powerful gust of wind blew toward the waterspout. Under the strong wind, the waterspout began to twist, and countless water droplets were scattered, splashing all over the floor.
But as soon as the wind stopped, the water gathered again. In fact, with more time, it seemed to be growing larger.
"You two, get outside first!"
Natsui turned to Lorenzo and Bianca. The two knew things had gotten difficult, and they couldn't help by staying. They gave Latios a worried look, nodded, and ran out of the cathedral.
The waterspout generated a huge suction and destructive force. As it moved, it not only shattered the floorboards beneath it but also pulled everything around it into its center.
Even the mindless fossil Pokémon, which only knew how to attack, were shattered by their own side's waterspout, and many of their fossil bones were sucked in.
Seeing this, Natsui turned to Ash. "We can't let it keep growing. Let's destroy it together!"
"I understand!"
The two called their Pokémon to their side. At their command, the Pokémon unleashed their moves simultaneously. In an instant, a rainbow of colorful lights flew toward the waterspout.
To ensure its complete destruction, Natsui also had Gengar use its power.
Seven or eight moves hit the waterspout almost instantly. Under the combined power of the Pokémon, the waterspout exploded into a shower of water that rained down on the ground. But just a second later, the seawater gathered again and reformed the waterspout.
"It's useless!" Oakley's head popped out of the sphere. "This is made of seawater, and the ocean's water is endless. Even if you break it once, another one will be waiting for you!" she mocked.
Ash asked in a low voice, "Natsui, what do we do?"
"If attacking the waterspout doesn't work, then we'll stop them at the source!" Natsui pointed to the rings trapping Latios. "You go free Latios, and I'll destroy this device!"
"Okay!"
The two split up, circling around the massive waterspout and rushing toward their respective targets.
Under Ash's command, his Pokémon attacked the iron rings binding Latios. But it was unclear what these rings were made of. They were not only incredibly sturdy but also seemed to have the ability to absorb the energy of moves. Electric, Fire, and Water-type moves were all absorbed by it.
Ash gritted his teeth and yelled, "Use Tackle!"
Noctowl dived from the air and charged at the rings. But the rings seemed to have an electric shock function. The moment Noctowl hit them, they released the energy they had just absorbed in the form of an electric shock.
Zzzt!
A brilliant electric light flashed around Noctowl's body. It was sent flying backward. With just one hit, it was knocked out, its feathers scorched black.
"Noctowl!"
Ash called out and rushed to hold Noctowl in his arms. He then turned to look at the device, his face filled with helpless frustration.
Meanwhile, on Natsui's side, the blonde thief, Annie, stood in front of him, commanding her Corsola and Ariados to block his path to protect her sister.
However, these two Pokémon were no match for Natsui's Gardevoir and Jolteon, not to mention the menacing Gengar watching from the side.
After just a few rounds, both Pokémon were defeated. Now, only Annie stood between Natsui and the device.
