After crossing the long suspension bridge, Natsui arrived at the closed main gate of the Fuchsia Gym.
Just as he was about to knock the door knocker, the two wooden doors opened on their own, without any wind!
But looking into the courtyard, there was no one behind the doors. No staff came out to greet him, nor were there any Pokémon in sight!
Did I trigger some kind of mechanism?
"Hello, is anyone here!?" Natsui called out loudly.
His voice echoed in the courtyard, but after waiting for a long time, there was still no sound.
The surroundings were dead silent, creating an exceptionally eerie atmosphere. It seemed as if every corner was filled with a murderous aura!
"So mysterious. Is this what a ninja's home is like?" Seeing this, Haunter immediately became interested. As a Pokémon that loves pranks, besides haunted houses and cemeteries, this kind of place had always been its favorite.
"Perhaps this is also a kind of test."
Natsui hesitated no longer and stepped into the gym. He followed a gravel path and arrived at the entrance hall of the main building.
However, to his surprise, the moment he stepped onto the floor of the entrance hall, the Fuchsia Gym gave him a taste of its power!
The floor suddenly rotated, its angle changing from flat to steep, instantly becoming a large, smooth slope!
Fortunately, he already knew this place was full of traps. In that split second, with quick eyes and fast hands, he grabbed hold of a nearby pillar.
Looking down, behind the rotating floor, a path that was once a neat stone slab had become pitted and worn from accumulated use. There was no telling how many naive and ignorant trainers had fallen for this trap.
To be safe, he opened a Poké Ball and released his Kirlia. With its psychic power, he could handle most dangers.
Adjusting his mindset, Natsui entered the hall again.
After walking around a screen painted with bamboo, he found himself in a dark corridor. However, when Natsui reached the end, he found that there were two forked paths, one to the left and one to the right!
These two paths looked ordinary, with nothing strange about them. But in this mysterious ninja house, who knew how many traps awaited him? Every step required caution.
After a moment of thought, Natsui followed his intuition and chose the path on the left.
His shoes made creaking sounds as they stepped on the floorboards.
After walking another dozen or so steps, the floor beneath his feet suddenly gave way. It caved in, revealing a pitfall!
However, Natsui, who should have fallen into the pit, was instead enveloped by a mass of psychic energy, floating in the air, and was gently flown to a safe spot.
"Good job, Kirlia!"
Patting Kirlia's head, Natsui went to the edge of the pitfall and looked down. It was pitch black below, but there were no sharp-stoned or bladed traps, just smooth walls and a moderately deep hole. While not deep enough to cause injury from a fall, it was impossible for anyone who fell in to climb back out.
It seems Koga's original intention for this trap was just to teach a small lesson to those careless trainers who fall in. He really went to great lengths!
Passing the trap, Natsui continued forward and noticed that the slope of the floor, which was originally flat, was gradually starting to incline upwards. He frowned, and just as he was about to send Haunter ahead to scout, he suddenly heard faint footsteps coming from the other side of the corridor wall!
Then came the 'click' of a mechanism being activated. As the ceiling cracked open, a smooth, round boulder suddenly fell from above and, using the slope of the floor, rolled towards Natsui!
The size of this boulder was almost the same as the corridor's width and height. Seeing the massive stone block, which looked as heavy as a mountain, Kirlia quickly blocked it with its psychic power. Taking this chance, Natsui retreated behind the pitfall to a safe spot.
As Kirlia released its hold, the boulder continued downwards, while Kirlia used Teleport to appear by Natsui's side.
Thud!
With a dull thud, the boulder fell heavily into the pit.
If it had been someone else facing this trap, without psychic powers or an incredibly strong Pokémon, this boulder would have been enough to crush the challenger flat!
"This trap is a bit... too dangerous, isn't it?"
Before he could reflect further, the footsteps on the other side of the wall sounded again, seemingly fleeing and getting farther away. Seeing this, Natsui quickly signaled for Haunter to give chase.
Haunter phased through the wall. Not long after, a cackling laugh was heard from the other side, immediately followed by a girl's piercing scream!
"Ah!!!"
In the next second, the wall in front of them suddenly flipped over, and a girl came stumbling out.
Her appearance was ordinary. She wore the black one-piece suit common for ninjas, with a pinkish-red scarf, and her purple hair was tied up in a huge ponytail.
Their eyes met. The girl gave an awkward smile and cleared her throat, "Since you've found me, it seems my training is still far from complete!"
At first glance, the girl looked unfamiliar to Natsui. He couldn't help but ask, "Please forgive my intrusion into the gym. I'm here to challenge the Gym Leader, Koga. Is he here?"
The girl crossed her arms and said, "If you want to challenge my father, you have to beat me first!"
"Father? So that means..."
"That's right, my name is Janine, and I'm his daughter!" Janine looked Natsui up and down and beckoned to him, "Alright, follow me. I'll take you to the battlefield."
The two walked one after the other, bypassing a few more traps, and finally arrived at a simple battlefield.
The field was located in a spacious room and was very simply arranged. What was even more unbelievable was that its ground was actually made of wooden floorboards!
Since it's wood, wouldn't Fire, Ground, or Rock-type moves easily destroy this place? Is it really okay to battle here?
In the trainer boxes, Natsui and Janine stood on opposite sides.
She pointed to a door behind her and said solemnly, "As long as you defeat me, you can enter that door and continue forward."
Natsui said nonchalantly, "Alright, if those are the rules of the gym, then I accept. So, what are the rules?"
"One-on-one. Whoever's Pokémon faints last is the winner!" As she spoke, Janine casually tossed a Poké Ball and sent out her Pokémon, "Come on out, Crobat!"
A purple, bat-shaped Pokémon with two pairs of wings, one large and one small, appeared in the middle of the field.
Pokédex: "BEEP. Crobat, the Bat Pokémon. A Poison and Flying type. The final evolved form of Zubat. They usually inhabit dark caves and can emit ultrasonic waves that humans cannot hear. Although they look fierce, their temperament is actually quite gentle. As long as you don't disturb their sleep during the day, you won't incur their wrath."
Natsui turned his head to Haunter, "You've never had a Gym battle before. Want to give it a try?"
