"W-wha…"
His eyes flashed with fury as he stared at me. His breathing was heavy and I finally closed the distance between us.
"What did you mean your dad sent her?" I asked.
He let out a sharp humorless laugh and swiped at another tear. "That bastard sent her to spy on me."
He scoffed. "I thought I'd gotten rid of him. Turns out the woman I'd fallen in love with was another one of his pawns."
I wrapped my arms around him and pulled him into a hug. "I'm sorry."
He pulled away. "Pathetic, huh?"
"I thought I'd finally broken free from him, just like Dean always wanted. Only to find out I'd walked right into his trap."
He shook his head and buried his face in his palm. "I'm never gonna get rid of him, am I?"
I grabbed his head and tilted his face towards mine. "You are. I promise you."
He scoffed and stood up. "How?"
"Because I'm gonna help you, Damien."
He turned to me. "You don't know him like I do. He has so many tricks up his sleeves."
